Humanity Undressed

Like every other human male, I also had a lifelong preoccupation with sex and reproduction. Time has passed and the pieces of life are all falling into place and I am starting to understand how it works.

We live in a legally monogamic society where about 7 to 10% are biologically homosexual and are in fact competing with women for men. Some 15% are mostly sexless, they can do it but lack the will to "conquer". According to studies on sheep, barely a half are definitely "macho" ready to mount a willing and available female. It is impossible to differentiate between homosexuals and the others from appearance. From Slate:

The U.S. Sheep Experiment Station near the Idaho-Montana-Wyoming border are doing "sexual partner preference testing." In a 15-by-10-foot "arena," a young ram is offered four choices: two ewes in heat and two rams. "The four stimulus animals are restrained in stanchions so that they can only be approached from the sides and rear." For 30 minutes, the unrestrained ram does as he pleases. The scientists count his "anogenital sniffs," "mounts," and "ejaculations."
A bare majority of rams turn out to be heterosexual. One in five swings both ways. About 15 percent are asexual, and 7 percent to 10 percent are gay. Gay rams are "a costly problem for sheep producers because breeding rams are worth $300 to $500 each. Outwardly, there is no way to tell whether a ram is male-oriented, so the producer runs the costly risk of buying an animal that will never produce any offspring."

Sheep are a population bred for sheepish behaviour, and agression has been erradicated from them as it had been from us, the civilized (urban) domesticated human populations. Percentages may be different but not much. Therefore, the human female in a monogamic society faces a very big challenge of getting hold and marry of an active male, but not too active as to dilute her exclusivity. The protection of her male partner against the population of women who - given the unequality in numbers - are unable to get hold of a man for herselves - must be enforced by social and legal measures. The active male has to be frightened so he will not philander nor dare to abandon her legal owner. This set of measures is made up by (a) ceremonies, giving legal sanction to marriage, (b) religion, which is always pro-family and for legality, (c) legal sanctions against male transgressions, such as the terrible downfall of Minister of Justice Haim Ramon, who fell into the hands of three vengeful inhuman female judges and was sentenced to civil death for a misunderstood kiss. There must be some linkage between the increasingly severe moral policing of society and the wild, open, everything-goes sexual discourse of Western public life.

The numbers also help to explain the phenomenon of genetic non-paternity, that is, that about 7 to 15% of the children are genetically different from their fathers. Human female is very secretive about her sexuality, and she is looking to have sexually-aggressive "macho" children which can be had only from philandering males and not from milketoast husbands. That's why married women are eager to have sex with philandering males, who may be less successful than her legal husband but has the quality of boldness and willingness to start a secret and punishable relationship. In this complicated game, significant movements are done in clandestinity. The bold who act in secret are rewarded.

Lets do some math. From each 100 boys, 10 are homosexual and compete with women for men's favours, 15 are asexual and cannot be aroused, and 20 are bisexual. Thus makes 100 girls + 10 homo + 10 bisexuals = 120 active females competing for 65 active males. In strict monogamy, 46% of the girls are doomed to spinsterhood.

Boys were always favoured over girls, baby girls were culled in China and less pampered in other societies, so that at reproductive age there were more boys than girls. With medical advances, gender can be detected in utero, and the unwanted aborted, so in some areas of China and India we have 130 - 150 boys for 100 girls. In such a society, the percentage of girls doomed to spinsterhood is much less, in fact, all of them may find happiness with an active "macho" man for herself. In such an idyllic society, married women can be faithful to their husbands and the number non-paternities decrease to almost zero. This would be a society less stressed than any we know today. In fact, the ideal monogamic society may have a 1.5 male to female ratio.

This seems to go against common sense and I dont know if it is true, but it has the advantage of being measurable, so it could make a nice subject for a research.

A few more thoughts: Without female baby culling, social harmony could be preserved by polygamy. The average family in this society is one husband and two wives. Since not every couple wants to become a triangle, the possibility of more than two wives has to be available.

The current situation in our societies, that half of the girls cannot find a satisfactory coupling arrangement, involves tremendous stress, primarily for the females that cannot find a husband and those who cannot keep him, and as so well said in the film "Chicago": "If Mama is not happy, Nobody is happy", no one can be happy in a society where half of the population lives in permanent stress. These crazed females are driving crazy everyone and shooting people left and right. Israel's Minister of Justice is a victim of this unbearable situation.

I close this train of ideas, as in Greek drama, with catharsis and sorrow. A tear drop is falling from my eyes for my poor little daughters, what a difficult life they have ahead.
