Iraqi Oil is being developed

The nearest oil fields to Israel are in the Kurdistan region and they are being distributed among international companies. Already about twenty companies are working in Kurdistan.
* Award of the Mala Omar and Shorish Blocks to OMV Petroleum Exploration GMBH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of OMV Aktiengesellschaft, the largest oil and gas company in Central Europe.
* Award of the Akre-Bijeel Block to Kalegran Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of MOL Hungarian Oil and Gas PLC, and Gulf Keystone Petroleum International Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of UK-listed Gulf Keystone Petroleum Limited.
* Award of the Shaikan Block to Gulf Keystone Petroleum International Limited, Texas Keystone Inc., and Kalegran Limited.
* Award of the Rovi and Sarta Blocks to Reliance Energy Ltd.
In principle, the area is open to Israeli companies.

The Arab Gas Pipeline is connecting Egypt's gas fields field the Turkey-Europe network. It avoids Israel, but it could be connected to the old TAP line from Syria, making Haifa - once more - an energy industry center. This is very difficult to achieve, would require superb geopolitical finesse from Israel.
