I am sick with viral influenza, with fever and coughing like a dog night and day. But that is no obstacle for my wife to take her this sunny winter morning to the Schubertiada in the Herzliya Air Force Auditorium. The place was full with coughing and sick Schubert lovers and their dependents, as was the female singer. Anyway, being a true Kulturmensch I stoically enjoyed her lieder about dry flowers and impossible loves. Franz Schubert was born in Vienna on 1797, his father was a parish schoolmaster. Of the Schuberts' sixteen children, eleven died in infancy; five survived. Schubert himself died a pauper at age 31.
