The Ecuatorian Radar was Off

In the operation against the guerrilla camp in Santa Rosa, Ecuador, the Colombians employed light aircraft and Blackhawk helicopters (pic above). The surprise operation took place on March 1st., 2008 00.25 hs. The Ecuatorian Army arrived to the place in the evening (18 hours late).
Ecuatorian Minister of Defense explained that there is an air defense group in the area but the radar was not operational because air operations are carried out during the day and not at night. The radar is closed down during the night.
