In the uniform of the Austro-Hungarian army I assume? That he fought alongside the Germans in WWI did not count for anything.

My grandfather met his end in Treblinka, but somehow the fate of the Hungarian Jews was even more heartbreaking - by then the operation of Auschwitz was well known and still the Allied bombers flew over and did nothing. By November, the SS dynamited the gas chambers to hide their crimes from the advancing Russians.
