Schmegege

Heard around the net:

In general, Yiddish words become more pointed and provocative the fewer syllables they have.

Putz, schmuck and yutz are pretty offensive.

By the time you get to the two syllable words like schlemiel, bubkes and schiksa, things are not quite so harsh.

And anything with three syllables, like mehshugah, facacta and yes, even schemegege, you're practically engaged to be married!

Schmegege, I think, comes from the noise made by ducks, ברווז מגעגע. Example: That schmegege from Africa-Israel Corp. has no idea where the manhole should be placed".
