The Abraham Lincoln

This American battle station, the nuclear powered Abraham Lincoln, has more firepower than a medium sized army. It is patrolling somewhere between the Indian Ocean and the Western Pacific.

A lot of writers believe that if the US were to get into a naval war with another large power our 10 0r 12 carriers would be sunk in 2 days by missiles or submarines. I believe that the carriers are useful in peacetime the same way a police car is useful during peacetime. A carrier can pull up to trouble spot in the 3rd world and bomb whatever we want it to, allowing the US to police most of the third world.

But in a war with a large power, those carriers may be useless. Needless to say, I want the US to avoid wars with other powers, but I also want the US government to do a lot of things it isn't willing to do right now.

I dont know. A carrier is a mobile country in war. Very large.

A lot of analysts believe that carriers can be easily shot out of the water using missiles or torpedoes, hence they prefer submarines.
