It is now two years that I am full time independent consultant engineer. I completed about 100 different projects and have about 20 on the desk. I have learned a lot and got a good name, clients bring more clients. Wealthy I did became, and rather poor again. The pic is a 200 cubic meter water reservoir for an existing sprinkler system in Natania, for a 2,000 sq m store. I just mailed the design and am taking a minute to start the next one.

I've never seen a store with a water tower, is this required by Israeli building codes?
It is required by the Fire Dept. The store has lots of textile merchandise that may take fire, so the Fire Dept. demands a complete sprinkler system. This large sprinkler system needs pressure which is provided by a buster pump. Then it needs water supply. The City´s Water Department does not guarantee the supply of the large quantities of water required so the Fire Dept. requires that the store erect its own water supply for emergencies. Municipal water systems are designed by law to provide the necessary pressure and water flow for fire fighting, but they refuse to take legal responsability for it, because in case of fire damage, the insurance companies would sue them. So the owners of the stores and the factories are forced to build their own emergency water supply. Without them, no insurance company will sell insurance to them and without the yearly renewal of the Fire Dept. permit, no insurance company will pay for any fire damage.
