Mexicali´s NarcoTunnel Collapses

Weeks ago, a narcotúnel was discovered under the Colón Avenue in Mexicali, that served to deliver drugs to the USA by the way of Calexico. As consequence of the higher freatic water level, the tunnel has now collapsed, closing down the vehicle traffic to Tijuana. Flooding the tunnels between Gaza and Israel and Egypt was one of the initial ideas to stop tunneling, but it would have required large volumes of water we dont have.

Which way was the water flowing?

The topography in the international frontier (Calle State Highway 111 in Mexicali and Imperial Avenue in Calexico ) is very flat, but surface currents tend to flow northward toward the USA, towards the golf club. Underground currents tend to follow the topography.

I realize that you may have asked about Gaza. In Gaza all underground water flows toward the Mediterranean sea. The water spent on flooding the tunnels would have fed Gaza´s wells and the remaining would have ended in the sea. Since Gaza sits on sand dunes, it would have required large amounts of water.
