The new flu virus discovered in Mexico is a good opportunity for Muslims to deliver a message to Christians: Allah told you to avoid the pig. Egypt began slaughtering all the pigs in the country, saying it was a precautionary measure against the spread of swine flu. That no swine flu has been reported in Egypt is of no relevance, and that the virus is not spread by the poor animals, is even less of an argument against the massacre.
Egypt's overwhelmingly Muslim population does not eat pork due to religious restrictions. But the animals are raised and consumed by the Christian minority, which estimates put at 10 percent of the population. Our good neighbor, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan closed down all pigsties quoting public health violations.

It would also be a good time for the first world to tell these third world countries that their hygiene is atrocious.
Even without pigs there is still the chance of an outbreak of avian flu.
