Thinking About Nuclear Weapons

Since Obama will not stop Iran from building nuclear weapons, one option for Israel is to seek safety in the so-called logic of deterrence. Balance of terror means the USA - USSR model, that worked so well for many decades. Ironically, this will make Israel dependent on the always-problematic assumption of its enemies's rationality.

The model we seem to have adopted here is different, and I could define it as the application of immediate, unexpected, unconventional, massive, excessive, disproportionate force and violence against the slightest provocation. I have never seen formulated it as one of the Israeli ARmy's many doctrines. But that is what we seem to be doing.

If so, what we need are more, much more innovative, unknown, terrifying, mysterious weapons to fill our enemies Levantine imagination with terror. We dont actually seek to physically harm them, the Western world would not allow us to do that, but to teach God's fear to their savage hearts. The phosphorus mist (pic) used during the last punitive campaign in Gaza was effective. But they get used to it very fast and lose their healthy respect to us. We need to invent something that would make their pitiful penises change color and contract, because that our enemies are such that they would happily die a glorious death but they are paralyzed by the thought losing their masculinity. I know that the West would cause us further public relation problems for employing non conventional and forbidden weapons. But we are fighting for peace. And Mozes (see his instructions to Joshua Ben Nun before entering the Land of Canaan) said that we should fare an unconventional war.

And we seem to be winning. Yesterday I saw large groups of Palestinian workers sitting on the grass in Kever Benjamin parks, eating their pitta and hummus and olives, and hitting their heads against the asphalt. I had forgotten their look of unwashed, ferocious Mexican bandits. Once more, quietly, work permits in Israel are being issued. It is very good for our (and their) economy.

the US-USSR model wouldn't apply, because Iran has proxy armies at your doorstep. Since 1967 your neighbours have not attacked for fear of total destruction, but with a nuclear Iran there will be a safety-net allowing them to make frequent incursions without fear of annihilation.

Besides, imagine daily threats of nuclear launch and the consequent destruction of Israeli morale. Your country would fall apart under daily threat of nuclear explosion.

We shall counter daily threats with hourly threats of annihilation. Our nerves are much, much stonger than our enemies's. We have always won in the intimidation game. They used to run away leaving their shoes behind.

It means that once more work permits are being issued.

Now that is asinine. No work permits should be issued to the Palestinians - ever.

They need to. Israelis won't do it.

Iran's Motive? said...

I don't know if this is true or not but perhaps all the talk against Israel is a mask for Iran's fear of Sunni Moslems. They could argue that Pakistan is a nuclear power on one side that has allied itself with the Taliban. The Taliban clashed with Iran and persecuted the Shia Hazara. If Pakistan goes crazy and nukes India, India will come back with a truly furious revenge and Iran will need to signal for them to stop at the border. The countries to the north of Iran until 1992 were part of a hostile nuclear armed Communist superpower. For many centuries before that it was an imperial rival to Persia for the countries in the Caucausus and Central Asia. Iraq which is now occupied invaded Iran in 1980 (81?) and inflicted years of WWI style trench warfare on them. And the Saudis and Gulf states bankrolled the Iraqis, Taliban, and probably the Pakistani bomb. There are plenty of enemies and inshallah, Israel is only an Islamically correct symbol. But I still can't really trust them.

You are right, Iran has so many problems that one has to wonder why they choose to attack (verbally) Israel. Persians arebecoming a minority in their own county, Iraq is their enemy with or without Sadam Hussein, Pakistan and Afganistan are no friends, and to the north, you have Russia ! Imperialistic, ever expanding Russia. Israel should be a natural ally of the Persian ethnic group. One day they will realize it.

This model *was* actually formulated by Ben Gurion himself. I heard it described as the idea of the "crazy kid in the kindergarten". If you mess with him, he'll kick you in the balls. So you learn not to mess with him.

Maybe we act like a crazy kid in the kindergarten because we ARE crazy.

In fact, to be believable, you have to BE crazy.

Is there any other model that works?

They need to. Israelis won't do it.

The availability of cheap labor creates jobs that otherwise would not exist.

Second, the whole point is to not benefit the Palestinians. Every dollar that the Palis get could easily become another child, and in the future that child can go on to become a militant or a suicide bomber.

Ronduck,

It doesnt work like that. Since the times of Pharaoh, he more miserable a population, faster it multiplies. I want the Palestinians to be rich as Italians or Germans, and have the same natality.

No J, I think that you are wrong. I have a graph on my hard drive that shows Black and White fertility from 1800 to 1990. The graph shows that Black fertility since about 1920 has tracked the White rate with the Blacks avergaing one child more.

However, welfare dates back in some form to the 1930's and most Blacks live in urban areas now. On top of that the Black birthrate has closely tracked economic conditions, dropping since the 1970's. If welfare were stopped then Black women would stop having that one child before 18, and would instead have birthrates close to or even lower than the White rate.

Since the majority of Palestinians live off of welfare, I suspect that farming can't provide anything resembling a reasonable income, so many would see a drastic drop in their income without the inflow of shekels working in Israel. I wouldn't be surprised to see their birthrate drop.

Although there is the risk that the UN will increase payments if guest work stops. At the very least keeping them bottled up in their territories will keep them from carrying out any attacks inside Israel.
