When a democracy reaches a point where the politicians cannot say no to the people, and both parties are competing for votes by promising even more spending or even lower taxes, or both, the experiment is about over.It is the first time I hear an American politician coming out against democracy. I have a deep respect for Buchanan and his opinion had deeply affected me. Apparently, the situation is so bad that it is unsustainable in America. He has arrived to the conclusion that in the current demographic makeup the one-man one-vote rule is unworkable. On the other hand, it is only natural and expectable that the triumph of the Civil Rights movement of the fifties will ricochet and provoke a reaction. If the economic crisis becomes really bad, and the currency is debauched as is expected, then we are in a pre-War situation. My generation fears wars, but humanity will manage to survive, as it did for the last three million years.
“Remember,” said John Adams, “democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide.”

Waiting for the Next Big War
Patrick Buchanan has turned against democracy:

Welcome back!
I also picked up on the Adams quote from Buchanan.
I think, give or take a bit of hyperbole, that Buchanan is correct.
Democracy cannot succeed unless there is:
1. A certain threshold level of understanding of, and respect for, the Rule of Law
2. An excess of givers over takers.
Both of these conditions are now under threat in the USA and disturbingly, recent events give reason to believe that the talented class in the USA has shifted into the already large "taker" camp.
South Africa is already over the edge, and will show the way down. There are simply not enough first world people to carry the increasing burdens being imposed upon them.
Enslavement of the productive and law-abiding class is the inevitable consequence of democracy coupled with 'open borders'. A fundamentally different model needs to be developed; war is such a messy solution.
Anon.
How is that humanity has forgotten things that were of common knowledge only a few generations ago? Costa Rica was the best country in Latin America, and had a law that forbid moving of the Atlantic Coast peoples to the CEntral Valley. The law was abolished and Costa Rica is just another Latin country.
"My generation fears wars"
What are you talking about, Jew? How many wars has Israel been in within just the last 30 years?
"Costa Rica was the best country in Latin America, and had a law that forbid moving of the Atlantic Coast peoples to the CEntral Valley. The law was abolished and Costa Rica is just another Latin country."
There are still not that many blacks in the Central Valley-though the number is visibly rising. Some of those blacks are Dominican imports.
The Costa Rican underclass is heavily Nicaraguan. Central Valley blacks have a Latinized, low-key demeanor. They may also be afraid of going to prison where they would be heavily outnumbered by the Nicas.
