As predicted by this blogger a year ago, Ecuador entered a period of unsufficient electricity caused by global warming and the disappearance of the high Andes glaciars which Ecuador's hydroelectric plants. Although it was obvious to see the problem coming (French scientists published the results of their measurements a decade ago, I understood it in the moment I saw alfalfa grown at 5000 meters), it took Ecuador by surprise. The government is in total panic, they begged Colombia to sell them electricity, but they hate Correa the Chavista.
The Electricity Chief Andrade saud that the Government's anxiety is so high that they are changing their instructions according to the level of the Paute reservoir (pic, in good times). Albornoz had promised that last Tuesday all will return to normality. That did not happen and he was fired. High functionaries say that they cannot report the real situation to President Correa. "If we tell him that this will last till February, he will fire us."

Why does it matter if the Andean glaciers disappear? The rain water should still flow into the catchment area. The problem seems to be a lack of rain coupled with excessive electricity generation. Global warming appears to be the new witches' scare; infertility, impotence, job losses and pervasive unease and more can all be laid at its feet. Unfortunately for Al Gore and his green men they lack the power to burn the sceptics as the witches of old. When I was a student wastrel in Kerela in the 80s every summer brought electricity cuts, because the grid was in the main supplied from just one hydroelectric station and as it happened the monsoon rains were always tardy. The Electricity Board had not heard of global warming, indeed the fear then was the nuclear winter that cowboy Reagan was certain to unleash, and they could not therefore blame the capitalists for the lack of rain. The larger problem for Kerela though was that it was simply too poor to afford the electricity rates from gas fired turbines. Raising tariffs usually brought electoral grief for the ruling party.

Erotic populism! Many votes, yes?
MadIvan, This is a ANTI-Correa poster !
Let me waste a few minutes of your time. Right now the Amerindians have basically seized a good number of the governments of Central and South America. I think the process will lead to complete indianization whereby the Indians will finally revert to living in Indian kingdoms. LA has simply generated too many dictatorial strongmen for republics to be considered a natural form of government down there. The Whites living in the northern parts of South America and parts of Central America will retreat to a few ethnic enclaves or be assimilated. In short the Whites of the tropical and possibly northern Andean parts of LA (such as the ones in Bolivia) may repeat part of recent Jewish history. That or the remaining Whites down there will move to the southern cone countries such as Argentina.
Once the Indians revert to their natural form of government they will probably reject Spanish and work to alphabetize their native languages, with English serving as a bridge to the outside world.
The one problem in setting up such White states will be defining who is White. There will probably be lots of Mestizos who will want to move there when they realize the future their homelands are headed for. The original Iberian (Gothic?) Whites will have to fend off these immigrants while defending a pure state.
I think that once the region finally undergoes complete indianization and is peaceful for a generation, the Indian kingdoms down there will end up like Angola, importing skilled labor to operate the mines and waterworks.
In fact, I am probably describing the present not the future.
