Exceptional catch in Ecuador

This month 7000 tons of dorado were cought in Manta, Ecuador, when regularly they fish only 700 ton. The Pacific Ocean near Ecuador is exceptionally warm and white fish is now very abundant. Ecuador is in a special position on the planet and is being clearly affected by global warming. I like dorado.

I've never had dorado. In fact, I don't think I have ever seen dorado for sale locally. The only fish that I see that I consider to be from Latin America is tilapia, but that may have a longer history here than I suspect.

But Ecuatorian dorado is exported to the USA.

Maybe I'm not looking carefully enough then when I pass by the seafood counter, because I don't remember seeing it for sale locally here in Mesa. Maybe it is sold in specific regions of the US.

I'm not much of a seafood eater though.

Probably there is little demand for sea food at a landlocked town like Mesa. Here we eat mostly tuna and salmon.

You are correct on that. I have a friend from Chicago who often gets angry at the type of seafood available here.

According to wiki dorado is also known as mahi-mahi. I think I have heard of mahi-mahi.
