Setting the Just Price

The Price Tag policy has been started. Obama has forced Netaniyahu to stop all development in Samaria and Judea, and bulldozers are on their way to destroy "illegal" homes and synagogues. The Samarian pioneers have adopted a clear counter-policy: for every home destroyed, for every vineyard uprooted, they will exact a price to be paid by the Government. They have very good psychologists and economist among them, even Nobel Prize Prof. Amann is with them.

As a first step, last night the mosque of Kafr Yossif Palestinian village was burned down. A graffiti message was left on the wall: "Price Tag". It is Friday, the Muslim prayer day, and in all mosques of the world "Vengeance" will be preached. Obama has no idea with whom he has opened an account. It promises to be an expensive business for all.

How is this different from normal?

Up until now the mullahs merely wanted to drive the Jews to sea and mildly kill all those left behind. Now they will add Vengeance to it.

On regular Fridays, the mullahs had to cry "Vengeance!" for general crimes, such as Jewish building on land formerly owned by Muslims, for Palestinians having to wait at checkpoints and so on. Now they have charred carpets and blackened concrete walls to show.

Is there a movement in Israel to end the American aid? You don't really need it, given the size of Israel's economy today, and ending that allowance would probably give Israel more freedom of action politically. It would be politically useful for the U.S. to end it as well. Frankly, I think the best thing for all concerned (well, at least Israel and the U.S.) would be an American policy of benign neglect toward the Israel-Palestinian conflict. Then we could free up diplomatic resources to deal with the more important India-Pakistan conflict.

Personally, I think the time is soon coming when the US will be the grateful recipient of Israeli aid.

Anon.

According to the little I know, for several years there have been no new US civil aid projects in Israel. Almost all the "aid" we receive is in the form of American war materiel, and local producers are not happy with the competition. Another problem with American military aid is that Israel is dependent on American spare parts, which is very bad for us politically and also economically, because American spare parts do not come cheap. It is like Rockefeller giving out petrol lamps free, calculating (rightly) that fuel purchases will make for the "present". I also received an Epson printer almost free, but the ink replacement is very expensive. That's why we develope a local weapons industry, to be independent.

PD.: Rockefeller claimed that he was doing it as a gift to the Chinese people. He was very generous.

Much of the aid seem to be a cross-subsidy to the American arms industry. In return the Americans get valuable feedback on the operational qualities of their armaments, as the Israelis are always either on the verge of war or in the thick of it. It is likely that the Ameicans gain far more from their relationship with Israel than they make public. No American soldier for all the talk of an indestructable bond has ever had to shed blood for the defence of Israel. (Note to the Liberty bugs, just let it die OK?)

Ivan, agreed. 80% of the American assistance has to be spent in the American weapons industry. I remember a large scandal a few years ago when with some of the money they bought uniforms in America, causing the bankrupcy of local firms. They found nothing high tech worth buying with the money. Or they didnt want to harm local hi tech arms industry by buying American. Some military airports were built by American contractors (with American money), and we can build airports better and cheaper than American contractors. Anyway, we take care that American help actually helps us and does not harm us. I hope so.
