As we enter into the second decade of the century, some bloggers like Mangan think the last one was very bad for the United States. America's decline is in direct relation with China's rise. I remember The Economist pondering what to do with post-Mao China. Kissinger writes that Brezhniev (pic) forced him to go bear hunting and while drinking in the treehouse for the bear to be pushed in front of the gun, he proposed that USA and the Soviets nuke and finish off China. In a less brabaric policy, China could have been isolated as before, but Nixon decided otherwise. He planned to integrate China in the world community of civilized nations, allow it to make a living selling its cheap manufactures, and to make it an ally in maintaining world power balance. Nixon and Kissinger succeeded beyond their dreams: China is now a pacific, positive, cooperating member of the world community, and has occupied the place the USA made for it in world markets. We are all richer by having China in. Therefore, I dont think America is in decline, not in population, not in economic product, not in its lead in key industries and sciences. It is we, older gentlemen, who are in decline.

The picture says it all. Brezhnev had no ideas for the Soviet Union apart from keeping the garrulous Krushchev out. If he had been a womaniser like the younger Henry Kissinger or like Putin a karate expert and sports fisherman much could be forgiven. But the man had no sense of fun, much less ideas. As you say he was too lazy even to hunt with his sharpshooter's rifle. He is the epitome of scleorotic. Why did he bother overthrowing Krushchev, when all he ever wanted was to stay still like a toad in the woods.
Kissinger is a Harvard Jewish intellectual, and not given to bear hunting. We Jews in general are not into hunting. Poor Kissinger having to climb a hidden tree house with a drunken Russian goy, waiting for poor bears to be put into position be shot by the VIPs. And having to decide the fate of one billion human beings.
The Chinese are lucky that we Jews are not a drinking race of the Nordic rank.
