America's Cup won by Oracle

The trimaran Oracle-BMW won the traditional Cup of America race. The boat is a fluid dynamics marvel. I'd enjoy designing sail boats instead of water supply networks. I am starting to teach next week. The semester has started.

I sense you drooling on the other end of the internet.

If the Americans want to keep their stupid cup they should henceforth suspend all the races. First it was the single hull, then came the catamaran and now the trimaran. Either race like gentlemen or leave everything to the computers.

J is right - the boat is a marvel. In any competition, you can try to freeze the equipment technology at some obsolete level and make it a contest of performance only, or you can make it a true contest where no one's hands are tied behind their back - the best that can be done on all levels, man and machine. Maybe the former is more "gentlemanly" but Ellison did not get to be a self-made billionaire by not pushing the edge of technology.

I was thinking of the physical pleasure of riding that large flying sail boat. It must be quite a sensation !
