Tim Worstall thinks that a small scandium extraction plant would be profitable. There are tailings in Australia and Russia with extractable scandium. It is not unobtainium (the Na'vi will not fight for it), and it has growing industrial applications.

It depends which tailings pile and which technology used to extract from it though....
Tim, I heard a quotation of 500 per kilo FOB. It must a mistake.
$500 a kg....yes, that is a mistake. Price has gone up: $2,000 a kg.
