Dienekes links to an interesting research work showing that in historical Yoruba populations, males bred 1.4 times more than females, 1.3 in Europeans and 1.1 in Orientals. Problem with polygamy is that the non-breeding males tend to be very unhappy and have no stake in the society. So they don't mind blowing themselves up on busses, flying airplanes into buildings, shooting up Army recruiting centers, etc.

Wars are needed to select the breeding survivors. That's whu men ar more evolved than females and are more intelligent.
Problem is that the traits emphasized by evolution are not necessarily the ones most needed in the modern world. The superior muscle strength and endurance of black people is mostly useless (except for a few professional athletes)in a world of knowledge workers. Or, as in the unique case of the Ashkenazi Jews, sometimes these skills (intelligence) happen to be uniquely valuable under the conditions of modern life, just by coincidence.
But men are not beasts ruled by instinct - they are very flexible. You would have thought that the warrior skills would have been bred out of the Jews by 2,000 years of powerlessness, but we were able to use the same intelligence we apply to finance to military campaigns, again especially because modern warfare involves intelligence based activities such as flying airplanes more than it does the old skills of bodily strength and speed.

The fact that historically successful men had more than one breeding partner is not a a divine command but deep inside we have that. It has not been bred out of us. Ashkenazi Jews used to be poligamous a thousand years ago, and the prohibition is just about to expire...
One woman is a headache sometimes. Two women = two headaches. When we read now about Tiger Woods' harem, each one of the women was demanding something from him (nobody gets anything for free), not just materially but also emotionally. It's no wonder that he was not able to keep all those plates spinning in the air like a circus acrobat.
The Shia of Iran seem to have the right idea (one of the few they have). According to their halacha, it is not permitted to be with a woman who is not your wife, but there is no limit on how short a marriage can be - you can agree in advance to get married just for one hour.

Here is another theory on why me are smarter. Smart women go on to succeed in the marketplace or in government and therefore do not marry and have children, while stupid women have lots of children. This might seem like a modern phenomena, but I suspect that it has been going on intermittently for a long time.
Also, I know that Diaspora Law (Halaka) prohibits polygamy, but you don't live under DL, you live under Israel's civil code. So even if some rabbi's injunction is about to expire it has no relevance on your life anyway.
Besides, polygamy should only be allowed in unusual circumstances. To permit polygamy in normal circumstances is a sign of decline. I wish better for you than to see a sign of decline in your society.
The food required for Zuma and his wives can feed an entire African village. But don't go oppressing them with facts.

Technically if you were a polygamist you wouldn't be betraying your wife since you would still married to her. Screwing another woman wouldn't violate the bounds of your marriage.
One thing can be said for President Jacob Zuma: He has great taste in wives!
African men seem to like women who have some meat on their bones. I find them a little too zaftig for my tastes which run more along the lines of Noa. African women seem to have a strong genetic tendency to put on weight as they age. Oprah Winfrey has the money and the societal pressure (high weight is strongly looked down upon in the US, especially in female entertainers) and yet she has been unable to keep from accumulating the fat that her genes have been programmed to put on her frame.

Weight in men is somewhat more socially acceptable than women, at least in the US.

Interestingly (at least to me) is the fact that looking emaciated is fashionable in white women, and therefore they often smoke (more now than men) but this is not the case in black women, where it is not fashionable to look thin, and therefore they smoke much less, to the chagrin of the tobacco companies.
This is one clear situation where the blacks have got it right and we have got it wrong. I agree, they often overdo it a bit, and put on too much weight, but it is better for their reproductive success.
The fashion industry I think, is controlled by white men whose priorities do not include reproduction. Take a look at the Financial Times (weekend) fashion section, for a regular display of this rather disturbing phenomenon.

Historically blacks smoked less than whites because they could not afford to buy as many cigarettes.
The originator of the phrase "you can never be too rich or too thin" was Wallis Simpson the Duchess of Windsor - she was famously sterile. The reason for her sterility , depending on who you ask, was either a botched abortion or that she was a hermaphrodite, but in either case, by the time she made that remark she was not concerned about reproductive success.
That being said, the average American woman weighs 163 lbs (73 kilos), up over 10 kilos since 1960, so the advice isn't working.
