In English, a shot and a beer is called a "boilermaker" , for reasons that seem unclear (a boilermaker is a person who builds steam boilers, as for locomotives).

Yes, this combination has a very "blue collar" image in the US. At this point it is old fashioned too - almost nobody drinks this anymore.
