Somebody spent much money on developing practical recycling ideas. Probably it was a grant-funded research project.
The idea: clocks and watches run on electricity, something very polluting and un-green by definition. An Earth-conscious person will use sustainable sand clocks built from recycled plastic bottles.

Clocks and watches that you wind up (the old fashioned kind) are "green". Not that it makes any difference - a button sized battery that runs a watch for a year or more consumes a trivial amount of resources is not "not green" except in the mind of feverish eco-meshugenahs who worry about such trivial things but then live in big houses and fly on jets for vacation.

Clocks and watches are NOT eco-green because instead of recycling waste plastic like the invention in the pic, they consume precious earth materials like metals and rubies, and they insume much non-renewable energy in their making including BURNING OIL and polluting the atmosphere with CO2.
I would pardon your ignorance if not for the BATTERY comment. The battery in question contains Lithium and other metals poisoning Mother Earth (you have seen her Avatar). Of course I am being facetious.
Actually, in Avatar we were accused of polluting another planet in another galaxy.
There really is no way to run from these idiots, at some point we will have to turn and confront them.
Actually Pandora was an (imaginary) moon and not a planet. It is how these people imagine Earth to be.

There is another interpretation of the use of an alien moon. You could say that the director of the film sees industrial civilization as being so unspeakably evil that it has begun to corrupt the entire universe.
In short, IC is an evil so great that it cannot be run from because it will corrupt and destroy whatever small reserve you have made for yourself, and therefore must be confronted and destroyed locally then universally.
