Irreality on the Mavi Mamara

The Israeli version of the killing of nine Turks on the Mavi Marmara says that soldiers were kidnapped into lower decks and they had to be freed. Two days ago I wrote that I am not convinced. Now a German by the name of El Sakka tells to Der Spiegel his version:
He fled to the lower deck when he noticed that live ammunition was being fired. The ship's sick bay was located next to the sleeping quarters. He observed that an increasing number of dead and wounded were being brought down, including three injured soldiers.
What happened? Each participant experienced reality in a different way. What is real?

It is like the story of the great film Rashomon - each participant has his own version of reality. Post modernists take this to mean that there IS no actual reality, only our perceptions of it. I wouldn't go that far, but what is true is that our perceptions do differ, even if we are presented with the same images. A "peace activist" may see soldiers being brought to sick bay for medical assistance. An Israeli (conditioned by his own history) may see a soldier being taken hostage. The Hamas "freedom fighter" probably agrees more with the Israeli - to him the "peace activist" is just a "useful idiot" to be lied to.

I now think that the young Turks did not plan to take hostages, but to do the usual thing peace demonstrators do against the police, they fight with anything at hand, in this case, iron bars. But these were not riot police but navy commandoes, without intelligence, armed with paint guns and taken by surprise. Maybe it was a misunderstanding - in other words, the situation was badly misunderstood and mismanaged by our leaders. They still say "This is a war, we are in war, we have to defend our sovereignity" and so on. Maybe we need a new generation of leaders, more attuned to the word's mood.

Reluctantly, I agree. There will always be those who hate Israel no matter what it does, but actions like this increase the %. There have been many historical incidents like this where the military have "won the battle but lost the war" for public opinion - Amristar Massacre, the Exodus, etc.

No one in Israel thinks it was a victory. Except Barak who is saying that our maritime border was defended, all our soldiers returned home alive, they are heroes and should be decorated. I think we should investigate and if proper, to apologize to the Turks, even if they hate us and provoked us. It was a bad defeat. Sad.

Obviously Erdogan can only do the boo hoo thing because most people in the world who "have an opinion" on this affair will never bother to watch the video.

Apparently the Turkish opposition party is saying that Turkey has put itself on the line for an organization it knows nothing about, that said organization has hijacked Turkish foreign policy.

Erdogan is accusing the Turkish opposition of taking orders from Tel Aviv. The Turkish elections are coming and Erdogan succeeded in gaming us and play the Turkish champion. Sad.

From Reuters:
"The Palestinian officials, based in the West Bank, said that as of next week, Israel will allow a wider variety of food, such as potato crisps, biscuits, canned fruit and packaged humors, as well as soft drinks and juice, into the Gaza Strip."

What military reason was there for blockading these items in the first place? Will Hamas shoot fruit cocktail at Ashkelon? Bombard the Negev with potato chips? I can understand that items with military or dual uses (such as cement which can be used for bunkers) needs to be controlled but these measures strike me as petty and punitive and lacking rachmones.

Children are controlled by forbidding sweets and potato chips. Could it be that the idea behind the blockade? I am no psychologist and dont know, but the fact is that for the last two years they stopped firing rockets at our populations. Imagine: "You behave well, I shall give you fruit salad with whipped cream. You dont behave, it is UNRRA pita and tinned meat."

You can say that Hamas acts like children so Israel treats them that way, but how will Israel (or anyone) get the Palestinians to grow up so that they have a partner for peace? I don't know but I am optimistic - other countries that were once fixated at an immature level (German, Japan, even Russia and China to some extent) seem to have grown up and become responsible adult nations.

I am suspecting Erdogan or one of his sidekicks is reading this blog. He has adopted my reflexion that we owe him apologies, and he is demanding it! I shouldnt be giving him any ideas! One never knows!
