A weakness of the Chinese mental makeup is its tendency to collective hysteria attacks. A new phase of tension is building up and it may erupt in another mass display of going amok. The drunken fisherman ramming a Japanese warship incident is festering and suppurating. Mercifully, no Jews are involved.

Your spelling suggested that it is the excess proportion of males in the Chinese population that will cause the trouble.
Thanks for the delicate correction. I spelled "histery" out of negligence. My English is not up to sophisticated wordplays. My excuse is that the Chinese commit even more amazing grammatical crimes in English. You should see the signposts in China ...!
BTW, Chinese sex drive is weak and there is harsh social control in China, so excess males will never run amok. It is excess Arabs who do riot and throw mass hysteria fits in the Arab street.

Confucius and sagely Chinese like him are of course superior human beings, but there has always been a hysterical edge to Chinese culture. Witness the Taiping rebellion which started out as a quasi-Christian movement and ended up with tens of millions dead, or their Communist one which racked up numbers that would have impressed even Stalin. I read in Mangan's site that the Tiananmen demonstrations had its origin in a fracas over a black man and a Chinese girl. The Commies are in a bind, on the one hand they would like to keep goading the Japanese on the other the whirlwind might end up unseating them.
I agree w. Ivan - for people w/ low testosterone, they can get pretty angry. They are slow to boil but once they do get angry, watch out. The gov. would like to exploit that anger and direct it at the Japanese as a useful social safety valve - better that the rabble hates the Japanese gov. than the Chinese. But they are extremely wary of allowing any public demonstrations at all lest they spin out of control.

The other thing to keep in mind is that there are power struggles going on behind the scenes within factions of the party, especially right now when they are lining up the next succession and in China such struggles often get sublimated into seemingly unrelated matters since direct public discussion of succession and other internal Party affairs is not permitted. So Faction A may be secretly promoting trouble w/ Japan as part of some strategy for coming to power and Faction B may be secretly trying to put a lid on it for the same reason. The demonstrators, Japan, etc. are just pawns in another game taking place at a higher level. We can only use Kremlinology to guess at what's really happening and sometimes we never find out what intra-party struggle are going on.
Maybe Tiananmen started as a racist love quarrel (I never heard that one before) but what it turned into was was another one of those hidden party faction disputes, again with the students serving as unwitting pawns, some paying with their lives for the privilege.

The Chinese sex drive doesn't look weak to me. They've got over a billion people. Where did they all come from?
The Chinese sex drive seems stronger than Dennis Mangan's sex drive, that's for sure. Why else would someone so concerned about demographic trends not do his part to change them?
Good one, Juan.
I always wonder why Dennis gets so emotional about the issue when he doesn't have kids. What does he care about what happens 100 years from now? Who is he invested in that will be alive then?
