Does India and China need more rice than there is?

While pedalling on the threadmill this morning, and in the absense of new female asses to contemplate, I watched a business report about the coming scarcity (and high prices) of agricultural commodities such as cotton and rice. But the USDA report says production and demand are balanced.

My searching was activated by my big daughters crying that they had nothing to wear (Friday night...!). Their schmattes cost a fortune. I need to make more money. Speculate in Rice? Cotton?

If you fail, you will have lost, and if you succeed you will get hooked and loose a lot more later on.

Koko suggests you stick to the TASE.

One should stick to things that one knows. I know a lot about rice: rizzotto, arroz con leche, paella a la valenciana, madgadara (an Israeli rice and lentil plate), sake (rice wine) and Condolezza Rice.

I am not a fan of rice dishes, with the partial exception of spiced rice dishes as a side.
