Ashkenazi genes are identifiable through a 100 dollar saliva analysis. About 2% of American White Christians have identifiable Ashkenazi ancestry, Forward says. You should be wary of the accuracy of anything in the popular press concerning population genetics. The reporters do not even possess a rudimentary understanding of the methods involved or of molecular biology. Moreover, it seems that many lack any detailed knowledge of history that could provide context for the findings. Consequently, they cannot ferret out specious claims from publicity-seeking or sensationalist investigators or genetic testing labs.
Case in point:
The ridiculous article in the Daily Mail parroting the claims of a sensationalist researcher that Hitler had Jewish and African ancestry due to (possibly) possessing an E1b1b Y-chromosome
