Michelle's presence is royal. Hu is impressed, his expression betrays it.

Hu looks bemused. Chinese think of black people as monkeys. He's thinking, "Isn't it amazing that you can dress a monkey in a fancy dress." BTW, where is Hu's wife?
It's interesting BTW that Hu is not wearing a tuxedo (dinner jacket) at a black tie event. I guess it's one thing for an old socialist to give up the Mao suit and wear a business suit and tie, but to wear the garb of rich leisure class capitalists is over the top - one never wears a tux while working (unless you are a waiter or a musician). And Chinese people are always working.
BTW, do people in Israel ever wear tuxes? In America they are still sometimes worn at certain formal events - weddings, charity balls, etc. There is even an ultra formal level of dress above black tie, called "white tie and tails" (for obvious reasons). My brother in law was invited to a state dinner at the White House during the Clinton administration and had to procure such an outfit.
What about tuxedos (black tie/dinner jacket)? White tie is almost (but not quite) extinct in the US also but black tie is fairly common at weddings, etc.
The Obamas do not have charisma. This is literally the first photo I've ever seen of Michelle, in which she looks attractive and relaxed. Usually she looks like some ghetto girl who ventured out of the hood and looks scared. BTW, Chinese people loathe blacks. In the US, blacks go out of their way to mug Asians. Asians are starting to complain openly and demand that these crimes be seen as hate crimes, which they are.
Michelle smiles, she is relaxed and selfassured. She only needs a large red turban to look like the chief wife of a Yoruba oba. Imagine how felt that Chinese bookish book keeper standing near a powerful African female. Very intimidated, I think.
"Chinese girls small and delicate" - huge myth! Anyone who has been to Beijing or northern China in general can attest to the women there being quite large-boned and tall, almost like northern Europeans. Only southern Chinese are small.
Is that what Hu is thinking or what you are thinking?
Anonymous,
A lot of the hatred for Michele Obama is racism, pure and simple. In no way has she looked or acted "ghetto" in Washington. She is well-spoken, well-dressed, and appears regal in this photo, as J. says.
Dave, I can't know what Hu is actually thinking -therefore it must be projection, because I'm a racist. Racist, racist, racist, racist. Do you feel better now?
Hu is around 5'8" (173 cm) and his wife is maybe a head shorter - so probably less than 5'. They are both horribly dressed in this picture - like lower middle class tourists - maybe a mailman or a school teacher, not the absolute ruler of 1 billion people. Don't they have a clothes iron in their hotel room?
Many Chinese people from this era grew up malnourished so they were shorter than their genetics might indicate. She would have looked like a midget next to the Amazon queen Obama.
All Chinese party leaders dye their hair inky black - you cannot be seen to have any grey hair. I suppose it betrays weakness. Very oddly the hair on my head has neither fallen out nor gone grey though I am in my mid-50s. People accuse me of dying it, which I don't. Maybe I should have been a Chinese party leader.
Ink black hair alone does not qualify you to be a Chinese leader, you have be married to a Chinese tiger lady. It is true, most old Chinese paint their hair black. Probaly they believe that it makes them younger.
Interesting how Chinese couples show no affection. Generally they hate each other.
Chinese are traditionally extremely modest in public. In the old days when a Chinese woman went to the doctor he did not examine her directly - he had a figurine of a human and the woman would point to the area that was bothering her.

I never cease to be amazed by those trapezius muscles.
Chinese women are miniature and delicate. It would have been most impolite to put her near powerful Michelle.

In the circles I move, "white tie and tails" is unknown.

In the next picture, Michelle hits Hu over the head, and Obama steals his wallet.
The MSM have censored the photograph.
Anon.
American debt-Hu holds it. The Obamas don't.

Northern Chinese girls are tall but thin and delicate. But Hu is from Shanghai, South East China.
Here is Hu with his wife:

Chinese repress their sentiments. The relationship between man and woman lacks affection.
