Minister Lieberman has a word for Israeli leftists: "Feinshmeckers". In straight German it means "gourmet", but in Yiddisch describes overly sensitive fakes who breath ultrapure mountain ether, despising vulgar down to earth air. In Hebrew: "Naknik" (pic). Lieberman pointed out that the Ford Foundation supports anti-Israeli groups in Gaza, as well as local feinschmeckers such as the New Israel Fund. The late Henry Ford was no lover of Jews, but this may be going too far.

There is very little connection between the rightist anti-Semitism of Ford (old fashioned "Protocols of the Elders of Zion" type anti-Semitism) and leftist "the Jewish colonialists are suppressing the peaceful brown peoples" type anti-Semitism, except for the fact that Jews are, as always, the bogeymen in their fantasies.
As for feinshmeckers, this is a good thing. At one time, leftists were people of action - bombthrowers, fomenters of mutinies, etc. Trotsky, Lenin, Mao etc. Today's leftists sip lattes at Starbucks and cocktail to them means a Apple Martini, not a Molotov. The best thing to do with such people is just to laugh at their pretensions.

Yes, but they are annoying to serious people like Avigdor Lieberman. We have to chase them on the hills while they make fun of our well-fed gendarmes and make video films to take home and show their friends to general joy of the company. Very annoying!
Having clowns like this is the luxury of a wealthy and open society - just as Israel can afford to subsidize its haredi, it can afford to tolerate a few "fellow travelers" as part of the price of an open society. Some of these same people are very creative and good at writing poetry, painting paintings, etc. As long as you don't let them actually run anything, they are harmless. The real danger comes when you put the idiots in charge. But most Israeli voters are far too smart for that.

Don't people like that tend to work as teachers and librarians? This is part of the reason so many young Americans are leftists. They get brainwashed by their teachers.
Absolutely yes. Why would a competent right wing person work as a teacher, except perhaps in finance and engineering?
Perhaps the occasional example will be found, but the whole profession is constructed around leftwing values.

Lieberman was actually referring to the feckless moderate Likudnik right when he used that word.
Specifically, he was referring to Dan Meridor. We all misunderstood him.
