Hussein Salem, a businessman of Hosni Mubarak's regime, was detained in Dubai with half a billion (?) dollars - cash. He was fleeing Egypt. Dubai's police is starting to look effective.
Update: He and his money made it to safety in Switzerland. I was starting to worry ...

For some reason this story is only in the Israeli press. $500M in cash weighs around 500 kilos. I doubt the $500M is true , but the rats are fleeing the sinking ship - Mubarrak's family has already left the country. What do you expect the US to do? Send troops to keep our dictator in office? The Russians tried this in Afghanistan and it didn't work.

I expect nothing but I would love that the USA never mentions the name of one Al Baraday as a potential successor to Hosni Mubarak.
People attribute to the US magical powers that it doesn't have. To be honest (and unfortunately) the US has very little influence over the current direction of things in Egypt - the situation is mostly in the hands of the mob. We are not prepared to fight the Muslim Brotherhood for power even if their takeover would be the domino for a radical takeover of the entire Moslem world. If the Caliphate is coming, we are not prepared to do much more than we already have (even if it is suicidal to fail to act). The US has already paid dearly , on 9/11 and in 2 subsequent wars, a liberal Democrat is president and we are sick of fighting wars at the moment. If the Caliphate is to include France or Sweden or wherever, they must fight for their own salvation. Maybe China and Russia can get together and fight the Caliphate - neither one is very endeared of their own Muslim population.

The 500 MM story is true. At the beginning I dismissed the story, then i found out that he flew in Dubai with his private jet. I checked with source in UAE who confirmed that his plane was searched and the money was found, then he was detained until cleared based on discussion with egyptian authorities.
