Excitement and Climax

Today there was a large demonstration in Cairo. Mubarrak and the Army are waiting out the mob to get tired and hungry, cool down and disband. On the other side, the Ikhwan, the Muslim Brotherhood, is building up the tension to wreck the regime's nerves. I feel that the Brothers are winning this war of nerves as the West is starting to get tired of this unresolved conflict. American public in special is used to TV stories that gradually build up some kind of conflict that ends in a neat climax that resolves the drama. They hate the mental tension of a prolonged conflict, they desire to reach the climax - any climax - and be able to relax. I am afraid American nerves will break down soon and they'll demand a resolution to the Egyptian drama.

On the other hand, Israeli psychology is different. We are used to eternally unsolvable situations. Yesterday there was panic in TASE, but today it has stabilized. The vision of an Egypt ruled by Hamas ג-ט זאל אויף אנשיקן פון די צען מכות די בעסטע caused about 10% loss of my portfolio, but I hope that it will be recouped in the coming days. The Nasdaq already emerged from the same panic and is advancing very nicely.

Yesterday I met a Palestinian contractor and asked him about the Ikhwan. He said it was the Islam (submission or acceptance) and how is possible to resist God's will? He seemed sincere. Truly, how can one resist God?

Well for better or for worse, Obama is pushing Mubarrak out the door. He has given him the message that he should not run again for office and Mubarrak (who apparently is an American puppet after all) will so announce tonite. The question is whether this is enough - the Egyptian "street" demands his immediate departure. Whether we will all live (or God forbid, not live) to regret this I cannot say for sure (more than likely we will if history is a guide), but the die is cast. Good luck to the Egyptian people and to us - we will need it.

Even though it appears that Obama is pulling the plug on Mubarrak, I don't think we really had a choice at this point - it looks better for America if what is going to happen in any event appears to be in accordance with our wishes (or even at our command) than despite them.

Obama has lost its geopolitical mind and is acting like Jimmy Carter, ordering the Shah of Persia to go to the exile. It is a disaster for this part of the world. I am serious.

By the time we're done with Obama, I'm afraid he will make Jimmy Carter look good by comparison.

Righteous Americans full of good intentions are able to do much damage. Carter is a good man, his campaign to eliminate some parasitic worm in Africa is most admirable, yet he created the Iran of the Ayatollahs.
