A "Criminal" Food Factory

Yesterday I was invited to give a price proposal for designing a pasta factory. The new factory is part of Israel's largest food processing - catering complex, that is fighting a closure order by the Environment Police (no kidding, we have one). The grease interceptor looked like this (pic). There were automatic 24 hs sampling machines on the site - reporting to the Environment Ministry. The management was on the verge of total nervious breakdown. When they saw me taking pictures they became furious and violent. They are dreaming/planning to escape to another town.

This looks bad; they are supposed to use superior stainless steel when processing food products. They had better get out of town.

The factory is all shiny stainless steel. What you see here is the grease interceptor pumping station, full of oil and fat. They use lots of vegetable cooking oil, mostly soy oil. The color is from paprika and other condiments. The allowed concentration in the sewage is 100 mg oil in 1000 cc.

No wonder people is fat: the food is tasty and full of oil and fat.

Thanks for explaining this. I thought it was some kind of food stirrer. 0.1gm/litre of harmless cooking oil doesn't sound like much pollution.

Harmless? I see you had never met an EPA or Israeli Ministry of Environment regulator. 0.2 gm/lt (100% over the permissible level) will surely send you to jail. I am NOT kidding, I make a living from these things.
