I was always suspicious about what happened to that money. If all those "trees" had really been planted, Israel would be covered with forests by now.
Keren Kayemet is an ongoing organization which maintains many forests. The last summer fire in the Carmel destroyed millions of trees and have to be replanted. It has many parks open to the public. Moreover, the KKL is engaged in building dams and large water reservoirs. Some of the donations are used for aministration, but most goes to physical works. I think they do a very important job in keeping State lands from encroaching by Arabs.
