Competition for Immigrants

With the demographic collapse of Europe, governments are competing for culturally assimilable immigrants. Hungary, with a fertility rate half required for population stability, has extended citizenship to everyone able to prove any Hungarian ascendence. 2.5 million in Romania, Slovakia and other countries have already applied. Germany (pic The Volga Germans), Spain, Poland and other European countries have legislated similar laws of repatriation. Even Japan is trying to bring in Latin American Japanese descendants. In this they are all following the Israeli criterion of offering citizenship to any Jew where ever he is. The next step will be to create organisms similar to the Sochnut, intended to promote Jewish identification and aliyah (immigration to Israel).

The paradox is that this pro-immigration policy is being developed at a time of increasingly harsh anti-immigration policies in Europe. May be it is not a paradox.

That's not true. The Japanese don't want those people.

There are hundreds of thousands of Brazilian ethnic Japanese in Japan. They speak Portuguese and celebrate the Carnaval. Other Japanese may politely dislike them, but there they are.

One thing I learned from Argentine Japanese is that South American Japanese originate in Japan's poorest regions, from the South. Many Japanese do not consider people from those prefectures "real" Japanese. They are very aware of these ethnic differences, Japan has its own tribes that dont mix.

Perhaps you could reclaim your Hungarian citizenship? Just in case.

I am a native Hungarian citizen, K, with all its potential privileges. My daughter asked to have a Hungarian passport, to study free in Hungary, but I stopped her. Enough being a cosmopolitan Jew, always thinking on moving.

The average westerner is not that worried about immigration from the Phillipines, Vietnam or Burma. It is Islam that he is worried about and rightly so. Hell if the Arabs jettison Islam we wouldn't be hearing anything about this.

That was one of the few things that made us special. At least pick a more promising place to go "blood and soil", say surrounded by fewer enemies, with fewer extremist religious nuts and cooler weather. That's the value of the Hungarian, EU, whatever other passport. A reset button in case of disaster.
