La Cosecha de Mujeres Nunca Se Acaba
It appears that last year's 7.2 intensity earthquake has destroyed much irrigation infrastructure in the Mexicali Valley. The whole system was built by Americans a hundred years ago and nationalized in the nineteen thirties. Apparently only now the problem is being understood and the authorities are thinking about rebuilding. I am being asked to submit a proposal to create an Instituto del Agua, but the idea is yet to be defined. One thing they are interested is date palm plantations. Interestingly, the project manager is an organizational expert and the subject matter of the project - water - is considered almost secundary. Something technical and unimportant. To comfort myself I dream of La Cosecha de Tomates, Se Acaba, pero La Cosecha de Mujeres Nunca Se Acaba and "Negra Me Llaman" songs.

So many nationalizations in 20th century. So many.
It was turned into "ejidos" - something like a Mexican kolhoz. You can imagine.
