Gauss Facts

One of the mysteries that obsesses me from age nine is the Gaussian distribution. Why is it that throwing up coins produces a Gaussian distribution of results? What is probability?

Yesternight, having emerged from the mental pressure cooker of water litigations, Mexicali Water Institutes and exam preparation, I dreamt that Nature does not conform to Gauss. Thus everything, from Black and Sholes to life insurance prices are wrong. Quant trading programs dont work in the market.

Relaxing, I found a website dedicated to Gauss Facts (the internet makes all of us super-intelligent). It states that
Gauss didn’t discover the normal distribution, nature conformed to his will.
It sounds like a joke, yet what if true?

Other jewels:

Gauss once played himself in a zero-sum game and won $50.

When Gauss tells you that he’s lying, he’s telling the truth.

Before the Gaussian distribution was invented, every distribution was considered normal.

Gauss can both pet and not pet Schrödinger's cat at the same time.

The common phrase used by mathematicians, "Let n be an integer", is literally a request to Gauss to allow it to be so.

Gauss didn't die. He just walks faster than the light and we cant see him.

Gauss could have been a great politician had he not gone into math he had the mind of one

Who was greater: Gauss or Newton?

The wealthier one

Newton was a secret alchemist and could transmute counterfeit coins into gold coins. As boss of the Bank if England, he had ten people hanged for that. He was also a Member of the Parliament, a position that only wealthy people could accede to or buy into.

Newton survives only because Gauss thought unnecessary to spend time refuting his obviously wrong laws.

"Your utility to humanity is proportional to wealth generated"-some actuary undergrad. So Gauss's redemption value is lower he would argue

Newton is the greater scientist and stranger personality. Gauss had all the charisma of a German farmer.

German farmers make the best sausages.

Mythology.

Literal alchemical transmutations of metals impossible.

Mexicali is not too bad a place to be a consultant. They have the Imperial Valley's Southern Half and ruining it.
