Shameful.

How would you like it if your students made fun of you?

They insult your calculus porn?

Where did you find this recent statement from Prof. Cochran? His Ashkenazi IQ paper was published years ago. Anyway, even if true, it's a shame that the Ashkenazi advantage is so verbal-centric. We are slightly below European average for performance IQ.

It's not a shame if you are a lawyer, writer, psychiatrist, television host, etc. etc.

There are too many lawyers, to the point that few new graduates can even find jobs, much less jobs that pay well. Psychiatrist is one of the lowest-paying medical specialties. And of course most people who attempt to live by writing or to become television hosts or actors will fail. Verbal gifts were better in the past than they will be in the future for all but those who are extremely talented (beyond the Ashkenazi norm) and well-connected.

Every Ashkenazim is well-connected, and often given the benefit of the doubt by Gentiles who quickly come to appreciate the likely value proposition.

Up-and-coming Gentiles themselves, however, now have to earn their reputation, inch by bloody inch, in a way that talented blacks used to have to.

And this is the way of the world.

Whether given the benefit of the doubt by Gentiles, I am not sure. But it is not true that every Ashkenazi Jew is well-connected. Many American Jews earn their livelihoods in the professions and small business. Of the middle-class professions, only law offers the opportunity to rub shoulders with big mucky-mucks on a regular basis and only for the elite few. Many Jewish lawyers don't make that cut. Look at all the bottomfeeder Jewish personal injury and immigration attorneys in New York. Are they just putting up with the low pay and bullshit for fun despite being well-connected? From family experience, I can tell you that medicine offers few opportunities to make lucrative business connections. Most small businesses are unglamorous, and the customers are far from the corridors of power. Seriously, why do you think we are all well-connected, and if so, why am I not jetting back and forth to Europe and China for power meetings every week?

Yes you are; I see you on the plane all the time!

Seriously, what I meant was, that Ashkenazim are predisposed to help each other, and this is only natural, because of the sense of a widespread family relatedness that white people not only do not share, but no longer share amongst each other.

You also see this in other immigrant communities, it is human nature, and I am not critical of it, just making an observation.

Ashkenazi help white gentiles network all the time.

Why do you hate us? We are here to help.

I don't think that Anon. hates us. As he said, he was just making an observation, which I think goes too far, but after his clarification is not entirely untrue.

I'll second the last Anonymous. I grew up in a mostly non-Jewish area far from the Northeast U.S., so white Gentiles and some Asians make up most of my "network." That's fine with me. I actually find that there is a lot of intra-group competition and backstabbing when too many Jews are involved in a project. Less so when we are few in numbers.

I promise you, there is no hatred. In fact, there is admiration, no little pleasure in the association, a lot of mutual benefit, and a frank and willing admission of the huge contribution; but there is also the same kind of interest in you, that you show in us; and which itself is often sufficient to attract an unwarranted charge of Anti-Semitism. But, I ask you, given the above, what's not to be curious about?

Furthermore, I acknowledge that you yourselves have chosen to remain somewhat separate from us, despite the genetic overlap being closer than either of us might suspect; fine, but note that this will sometimes raise the issue of whether your agenda is necessarily the same as ours. I can't think of anyway to make this go away, but rather I think it can be managed intelligently when you consider the commonality of interest and joint problems we face.

I personally believe that Israel is an outpost of the West, is in the deepest trouble, and should be substantially supported; but in return, I think we should be supported in the West itself, to maintain our traditional strength, and demographic composition. That the West is in serious decline, partly due to mass-immigration, is a joint catastrophe for both of us, with I think some blame on both sides, and not the least on ours.

I am hoping for a partnership to fix this before it is too late.

"Hatred" is something we badly need to get beyond. Especially in a post labelled as "humor".

In the U.S. and Western Europe, there are trends of both decreasing separation between secular Jews and Gentiles (intermarriage, etc.) and more separation between increasingly stringent Orthodox Jews and Gentiles. My family is firmly on the secular side, and we can accept some level of assimilation because it seems to be assortative by class and intelligence in the specific instances that it has affected us. And if you are right, Anon., the Gentile spouses and half-Gentile children will derive some benefit from their association with us.

Anonymous said...

Amen to that.

But that having been said, I would not want to see a disappearance of secular Jews altogether, as an entity, partly from sentiment and partly because I believe the extraordinary cognitive prowess is genetic, and is a world resource that will not easily be recreated if it is lost through dilution.

We chose to remain separate? You chose to put us in the ghetto.

but note that this will sometimes raise the issue of whether your agenda is necessarily the same as ours.

What agenda is different?

>We chose to remain separate? You chose to put us in the ghetto.

We were chosen to remain separate. "You will not walk in their ways," and all that. Everything else followed.

Unfortunately, I don't think that being a secular Jew is a stable state. Wish it weren't so-I do like shrimp and lobster.

Some choose to integrate, some choose to remain separate socially, and some to remain completely separate, and even separate from secular Jews.

I am ok with any and all of this, as long as there is no great cost, which there usually is not. It appears to be self-supporting financially. In fact there is often a large, charitable donation to society as a whole, and which does not go unnoticed. What makes even the religious fundamentalism ok is that it is not proselytizing, is not generally intrusive, and does not threaten me or my civilization. Contrast what is going on now in Europe for a stark look at something very different, and which is profoundly disturbing to us.

As for the ghetto, I cannot speak to the circumstances, but it seems to have been a mainly Eastern and Southern European phenomenon. It is not in my history, so it would be meaningless for me to say anything about it. I strongly suspect there would have been at least some mutual, voluntary segregation anyway.

It is not a stable state. But then, human groups and their languages, cultures, genomes, etc. are evolving all the time. Everything is changing all the time. Nowadays I am doubting the relationship between contemporary religious groups say in Jerusalem and Orthodox Judaism in Hungary. Jerusalem people are mixed, they have incorporated much Middle East genes and of course culture. Their keep their reproductive habits in total secrecy, but I predict that someone will do a genetic profiling of Jerusalem Orthodox groups and find surprises. Old age provides perspective and I can compare what I see with I remember.
