Harvard Professor of Political Science Robert Putnam (author of Bowling Alone) did a five-year study on the community effects of ethnic diversity. He found his results so distasteful he suppressed his own study for a while. But it leaked, and eventually he published it. Putnam found diversity has not only reduces trust between groups, but within groups as well. The most diverse place in America: Los Angles. It's also the city with the least trust between and among individuals. In other words, diversity is a disaster in the short and medium term. Putnam, in what seems like a act of faith, thinks eventually diversity improves community.

Anyway, having an illegal African immigrant class in Israel did reduce the ethnic tensions between the Jewish groups in Israel. Even the most dejected feel his/her life is bearable in comparison to them.

Look at Yugoslavia. A multi-national state held together by a strongman. After Tito the country broke up. Cyprus provides another good example. Only when the Christian Greeks and the Muslim Turks migrated, with Greeks to south and Turks to the north, did something like peace come to the island. Then we have the Indian subcontinent, which had to split into Muslim Pakistan, and Hindu India. Only some 150 million Muslims remained in India. The Muslims know that if they go too far, Hindu mobs will massacre them. In 2002 the Muslims went too far and burned a rail car full of Hindu pilgrims. That triggered an orgy of violence with each side slaughtering the other. When Indians get to know you, they will admit that it's only the threat of slaughter that keeps the Muslims under control. A very step price to pay for diversity.

The multi-cultural nature of Singapore can be preserved only by authoritarianism as pointed out some time ago by Helmut Schmidt. This kind of society works only when the races know their place. In Singapore the Chinese form the overwhelming majority, and since they do not feel threathened as their demographics are reasonably healthy and they are economically dominant, the government can bend over backwards to accomodate the Malays and Indians. Now if the proportion of Chinese were to drop from the present 73-5% to say 60%, racial issues, would surface destroying the safe and good life we have here. For this reason, I feel a certain anger mixed with some sadness at the multi-cultural experiments that Western populations are being subjected to by their elites. They will not end well.

The situation in Israel is similar, so we are determined to keep a solid Jewish majority. Some leftwing Europeans think this is not correct. They are babes in the wood.
