Dysfunction in Washington

Just to note that there is something like a civil war going on in America. The Republican Party wants to bring down Obama and its populist policies. Obama has created a social class that lives off the budget; this class has now a vested interest in his rule. America has not grown in three years; in the while, China's economy grew about 25%.

America's largest foreign creditor, China, has repeatedly urged Washington to protect its dollar investments and its state-run news agency on Friday said the United States had been "kidnapped" by "dangerously irresponsible" politics.

Wall street ended its worst week in a year. The U.S. dollar plunged to a record low against the Swiss franc, which is viewed by investors as a safe haven currency. The whole world is trembling.

Less developed countries grow faster than developed countries. The U.S. hasn't seen 25%/yr economic growth since long before Obama.

Yes, but zero growth means minus growth per capita and lower living standard.

This is my first visit, via Mangan's. With respect, you should avoid terms whose meaning you really don't know. The Republican Party wants to bring down Obama and its populist policies. Obama's policies are anything but "populist." In American parlance, "populist" refers to the interest of the common, non-rich, non-politically connected person. But the policies that emanate from the Democratic Party are those of the elite. The best you could say about Obama is that his policies are designed to benefit large numbers of black people whose culture does not allow them to master the skills (proper English + cooperativeness and agreeableness) needed to participate in the private economy. The unchecked growth of officialdom and taxation needed to achieve is obviously deleterious to the interests of the broader populace.

Alonzo:

The wiki says that "definitions of populism vary widely and the term is often employed in loose, inconsistent and undefined ways to denote appeals to ‘the people’, ‘demagogy’ and ‘catch-all’ politics or as a receptacle for new types of parties whose classification is unclear."

However, you are right to point out that "some exceptions to this pattern of usage exist, notably in the United States..."

With the stock market sinking like a lead balloon, and the historic downgrading of the US debt, we are only now starting to enjoy the real fruits of the Oponzi administration.

Congratulations to all the idiots who put him and his communoid junta in power. May you reap what you sew.
