Germany's infatuation with "Greenness" is starting to have consequences. The energy company E.ON announced it is cutting 11,000 jobs in response to Berlin's nuclear phase-out policy. The price of electricity will rise considerably, and the wind's unpredictability will translate into aleatory supply.

Sew the wind, reap the whirlwind.
Anon.
And pay high electricity bills.
I don't see how the Merkel's government can survive. Merkel should know better. She's a physicist so she must understand the laws of thermodynamics and she how absolutely absurd wind power has to be. She grew up in East Germany and was even a member of Free German Youth, a youth movement of the German Democratic Republic. Thus she should understand from direct experience what socialism is all about. Nevertheless she seems like a naive Jewish girl from the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Does she think that Germans are going continue to subsidize the PIGS and tolerate the money creation from the ECB?
Germans still remember the Wiemar inflation and they don't want to go through that again. The next few years will be interesting ones for Europe and the U.S.
Free German Youth is like the Hungarian Uttorok or Pioneers. I too had a red scarf and medals, and that did not made me a Socialist. On the contrary. Merkel is no Jewish girl from the Upper West Side, she is a dour Prussian politician.
