The Sacking of Tripoli
The triumphant rebellion in Lybia is stranger than appears. A small group without a name, organization, political program hesitantly started something called "rebellion", and soon were embraced by an European ad-hoc alliance and provided technical assistance, weapons, vehicles, financing, air suport etc. The rebels were such a bumbling collection of analphabets that it took them no less than six months to reach the capital - on European ships. Mangan suggests that the European imperialists's goal is Ghaddafi's gold, in other sites oil and gas leases are mentioned (Italy and France are planning to take over American leases). The whole thing reminds me the film "Queimada" ("Burn") where the British organize a rebellion in a Caribbean island to the point that the British agent (Marlon Brando) holds the hand of the frightened local leader finishing off the "Supremo".

Colonel Gaddaffi is, curiously, nowhere to be found.
Koko tells me he is now working as an air hostess, and didn't even need to change his clothes or hat.
Apparently he applied at Pan Am, but nobody returned his call, so he had to settle for British Airways.
"Will that be coffee or tea, sir? And, for you comfort and safety, passengers are requested to fasten their seatbelts as we descend into chaos"

Qadhafi is missing.
He has returned to rural Beduin existence for the final battle.
The development of the Lybia insurgence could give us a valuable insight into human nature and the status of the science investigating it.
Because, what will happen when Ghadaffi is gone?
I would predict:
- First, crime will go through to the roof. With the disappearance of the colonel thiefs, robbers, thugs, rapists will all be opportunistic.
- Second, rival tribes will try to establish hegemony, especially the oil fields; one will win, others will try to occupy some of Lybia's more areas
- Third, big men will rise to power and establish autocratic order
- Then, democracy will only have a chance if Western powers press for some sort of people's representation/ congress
- Finally, the ruling congress will (grow to) be a subservient sideshow to the autocrat's real power. The autocrat will be cheered on by the masses, who will have grown disappointed with the inept corrupt congressmen.
Cynical, I know, but that's what I fear is what will happen.
I hope Lybia will be spared from inter-ethnic violence between religious sects on the one hand and spats between Sub-Saharan migrants and the natives on the other hand.

"more REMOTE areas"
The moral of this Story is you really need nuclear weapons when dealing with the west Iran and Syria should take note, he should never have denuked himself
Ghaddafi's mistake was to denuke Lybia. Mr Simon is right. Should he completed the purchase of a Pakistani bomb and a North Korean missile, Nato would never attacked and he could have passed his Colonelship to his valiant first or second born. But he believed in Western promises. BIG mistake.
Obama is not western.

Treachery is as Western as the Troyan Horse.
There is a fair chance Obama is in South Africa or Zimbabwe.

Correction - I mean there is a fair chance Ghaddafi is in South Africa or Zimbabwe.

Your lapsus is understandable.
Yes. After the upcoming "American Spring", Obama will be there as well.
