My daughter (center) writes that Shanghai is chock-full of young American Jewish financiers (pic?). The other girl may be German (these days they come in several colors), and that big head may be the God of all Hedge Funds. Originally I understood the studio wanted her for mosque design, because Israelis are world experts in the subject, but there is no market for Islamic architecture in China. She does bus stations.

I'm surprised that the young American Jewish financiers have time to socialize during their 100-hour work weeks.
Idea: Learning diary of an Israeli architect in China! Or maybe she could guest post bits here.
Should be much more interesting than the usual english teacher in asia stuff.
And can you ask if any of the other westerners there have blogs?
I think this illustrates why underneath the veneer of hype, the Chinese are basically screwed for fundamental sociobiological reasons.
The high male to female ratio is resulting in “empowered women”—and the Chinese don’t have the cultural resources to deal with this unless they quickly do an about face and start preferentially aborting male fetuses. And they are increasing their interactions with both Jews and India to the point that I expect it won’t be long before the combination of “empowered women” and invasion of parasitic cultures will undo them.

What would we ever do without Kevin MacDonald and his cult followers?
Those Jews do not look like parasites. You are a mean person.
The big noses do not belong in China.
I dont think the Chinese will be undone by Hindus or Jews. On the contrary, it is time some one told them to stop buying American bonds that pay nothing (and have been recently downgraded). There is an urgent need for good money managers in China.
It will be interesting to see if the Jews will be as successful in Asia as they have been in North America, Europe, South Africa and Australia.
My prediction is that China, at least, will be a more difficult market to crack. Money is held quite closely in Asia, and there is actually no shortage of people who love to gamble, like mathematics, and are smart and commercially aggressive.
We will see.
Anon.
The world wealthiest Jews are in Asia: The Kadoori family holds large tracts of Hong Kong, and the Sassoons were the bankers of Shanghai. They are Bagdadi Jewish families. Chinese and Jews are naturally complementary, I feel. In general, Westerners are very successful in China.
The Chicoms love to bluff a lot. We'll soon see if they were swimming naked all this while.

"The world wealthiest Jews are in Asia: The Kadoori family holds large tracts of Hong Kong, and the Sassoons were the bankers of Shanghai."
Both the Sassoons and Kadoories gained their foothold in China due to British imperial concessions. The Sassoons lost most of their holdings during the Communist Revolution, and the Kadoories only held onto theirs because they were more established in Hong Kong, still ruled by the British after 1949.
Another reason for the Chinese not to trust the Juden. David Sassoon was a drug kingpin, a vile disgusting court jew first in service to the Pasha of Iraq and then the Queen of England. A fortune made on imperial monopolies and drug pushing.
If I remember correctly, the British waged war on China to force them to consume their wares. In our days it would be like the Mexican Zeros bombarding Washington to secure trade and territorial privileges and monopoly in the drug business in the US. Another reason for the Chinese, as you say, not to trust the Anglo Saxons.
Leading British politicians beginning with Gladstone were ashamed of the opium trade but few scruples could wither the tidal wave of silver. They understood that the Chinese were suckered into an inelastic trade with Empire interests. From Gravity's Rainbow:
[Chu] is a living monument to the success of British trade policy back during the last century. This classic hustle is still famous, even today, for the cold purity of its execution: bring opium from India, introduce it into China—howdy Fong, this here’s opium, opium this is Fong—ah, so, me eatee!—no-ho-ho, Fong, you smoke, smoke, see? Pretty soon Fong’s coming back for more and more, so you create an inelastic demand for the shit, get China into a couple-three disastrous wars over the right of your merchants to sell opium, which by now you are describing as sacred. You win, China loses. Fantastic. (GR 346).
On the other hand there is this from the pynchonwiki site :
....from the Amazon.com description of Narcotic Culture : A History of Drugs in China:
"To this day, the perception persists that China was a civilization defeated by imperialist Britain's most desirable trade commodity, opium--a drug that turned the Chinese into cadaverous addicts in the iron grip of dependence. Britain, in an effort to reverse the damage caused by opium addiction, launched its own version of the "war on drugs," which lasted roughly sixty years, from 1880 to World War II and the beginning of Chinese communism. But, as Narcotic Culture brilliantly shows, the real scandal in Chinese history was not the expansion of the drug trade by Britain in the early nineteenth century, but rather the failure of the British to grasp the consequences of prohibition." In a stunning historical reversal, Frank Dikötter, Lars Laamann, and Zhou Xun tell this different story of the relationship between opium and the Chinese. They reveal that opium actually had few harmful effects on either health or longevity; in fact, it was prepared and appreciated in highly complex rituals with inbuilt constraints preventing excessive use. Opium was even used as a medicinal panacea in China before the availability of aspirin and penicillin. But as a result of the British effort to eradicate opium, the Chinese turned from the relatively benign use of that drug to heroin, morphine, cocaine, and countless other psychoactive substances. Narcotic Culture provides abundant evidence that the transition from a tolerated opium culture to a system of prohibition produced a "cure" that was far worse than the disease. Delving into a history of drugs and their abuses, Narcotic Culture is part revisionist history of imperial and twentieth-century Britain and part sobering portrait of the dangers of prohibition...
It has to be said though that the Chinese have long memories of the cynical exploitation of Manchu weakness; the ferocity of Singapore's drug laws can be traced to it.

I read many stories of old and wealthy Chinese families ruined by the vice.
The opium trade was dominated by the Sassoons and other Jews:

The famous Shanghai Derby was dominated by Jewish horses.
