The Mexicans Are Not Coming

According the latest figures, the situation I have foreseen has come: More Mexicans are leaving the USA than entering it. This results from stricter enforcement but also the American recession. Today population growth is lower in Mexico than in the USA. I have no bread in this matter, but the time will come when America (and Europe) will want to attract young, educated immigrants and there will be none coming. People is the ultimate source of wealth.

Most of the Mexican immigrants to the U.S., illegal or otherwise, could not be described as educated or even skilled. They are capable of hard work, but they bring along many social pathologies for the ride.

I think the idea that a larger populations is necessarily a wealthier population is also not true. India is almost as populous as China but terribly poor in aggregate. Likewise, sub-Saharan African countries with high birthrates and increasing populations haven't seen prosperity boom. In North Africa, countries with fairly high birthrates up to the recent past (somewhat lower now) can't afford to feed the large resultant populations in the face of worldwide increases in grain prices. In summary, there are only certain circumstances where a large population may be beneficial. One such situation is the European and American social welfare schemes that tax workers to fund retirement benefits. Only working immigrants who pay net taxes are beneficial in that situation, and it fails to consider any harmful externalities (crime, etc.) that the immigrants may or may not bring with them.

The Chinese situation isn't so simple either. Apparently, a lot of wealthy Chinese would prefer to leave China if afforded the opportunity. Apparently, the economic growth and huge population don't provide a very high quality of life for most of the population:

Why not just let the population age and shrink instead of importing immigrants? Population growth does not lead to political power.

A number of problems with your conclusions. First the figures pertain to illegal migration from Mexico. We still have one million legal immigrants coming in per year. Then I have to question the inference from apprehensions. They assume that a decrease in apprehensions must mean fewer illegal migrants are attempting to cross the border. There are other explanations. The Mexicans might have become more adept at avoiding apprehension or border enforcement could be more lax while pretending to be stricter. Don't believe most anything that comes out of Washington. Finally most of the Mexicans coming here are not educated or skilled. They are the mainly the excess lumpenproletariat from south of the border who consume more wealth than they create. Obama and the Democrats want future needy voters. Certain industries and their Republican backers want cheap labor.

We need to encourage our own people to breed, simple as that.

Israel does not pursue this policy; why should the US?

I have the feeling that the Mexicans will eventually melt into the US population - the Italians were also considered unskilled and unassimilable and dark skinned and they more or less disappeared into the mainstream.

They may or may not not meld into the population, but the population will not be the same as it once was, for better or for worse.

Italians are white. Mexicans are not.

People, you are still under the impression that hundred million Mexican peons are marching en-masse toward the American border. You are resisting to accept the fact that the pressure has relaxed and it may be even reversing.

In the thirties America erected barriers against the immigration of Italians, Spaniards, Russians, Polish and other undesirables. Today there are no more Italians and other Europeans trying to get into America. Even if now you would like to receive European immigrants. Simply those masses have disappeared and you lost an historical opportunity. Quality people are becoming scarce.

As from now, America is competing against China. America will need much more people to stand against China.

The average IQ in China is 108.....

You can fill in the dots.

Anon. is right. China has produced its own high-quality people, although the age and sex distributions are skewed a bit because of a mixture of government policy (limiting children) and cultural preferences for male babies. Their average IQ, at least in south China, is higher than the average IQ of any other groups likely to come to America's shores. If one favors immigration, as J does, I suppose it's a good thing so many successful Chinese want to leave China. Most prefer Canada or Australia to the U.S., though.

the IQ figures for China is bullshit, the same as much of their other figures.

I have worked with Chinese people in China, Taiwan and SEA; they come in all flavours.

The difference is that in the beginning of the 20th century, the native population was not shrinking while the immigration population expanded.

The immigrants joined, they did not replace.

Also, travel and communication technology allows immigrants to stay in the old country mentally. But back then, they had to leave it all behind - no contact ever again, no communication etc.

I'm sorry but I dont get the idea that Mexican immigrants are replacing the natives. Maybe in some jobs or places, but overall Mexicans immigrants are not killing or sterilizing native Americans. Moreover, I cant see by which mechanism they are depressing native fertility. My impression is opposite, the abundance of inexpensive home help makes child rearing easier for the middle class. In South America middle class wifes did no home cleaning nor cooking, and the babies were given to the care of fat negresses. In Argentina there was an abundance of girls from the Provinces that were willing to work for room and food and a little pocket money.

It doesn't matter who or what is to blame for depressing native fertility.
All that matters is that it is. Until that changes - close the borders. To ask people to do otherwise is to against human nature.
When people feel their death approaching they aren't disposed to be kind to strangers.

That is the argument of David Goldman aka Sprengler. European peoples feel their death approaching.

That was also common in the American South. I wouldn't consider a good thing. It's not like Latin America, or the southeastern US, is a shining pinnacle of highly functional societies. Even if it was a good thing, only a small minority of native-born households employ Mexican servants for childrearing purposes

"People, you are still under the impression that hundred million Mexican peons are marching en-masse toward the American border."

Secondly, the US census bureau itself gave the figure that immigration will increase the population by 100 million by 2050, not some crank out of Montana. This will be the main source of increase in the Hispanic (mostly Mexican-descended) population of the US, which is projected to grow from about 15% of the population now to 25% by mid-century.

Additionally, Mexicans do reduce native fertility, by increasing demand for housing and driving down wages. Also, when they become citizens (any children they have in the US are automatically granted citizenship), they disproportionately use welfare. They also become more criminally prone than the native-born in the second generation. Finally, Mexico's government inculcates in every Mexican, in their own country or abroad, the idea that the southwestern US is the rightful territory of Mexico, and should be returned, making the Mexican population, much of it concentrated in the Southwest, a balkanization. Some even go further and want Mexicans to overrun the country as a whole, based on the idea that because Mexicans have much more indigenous ancestry than whites, they are the rightful owners of the entire North American continent! Letting in Mexicans is as dangerous for White Americans (without whom the US would no more be the US than Israel would be Israel without the Jews) as it would be for Israel to permit the unrestricted migration of Arabs into its national territory.
