The euro crisis is creating a new entity which Chancellor Angela Merkel calls a "fiscal union." But in reality, Europe is on the path toward becoming a federal country. Great Britain is out. Der Spiegel asks: "What kind of future does Great Britain have without the Continent and without the euro? What is this small country's role in a world made up great powers such as China, Russia, Europe and the US?"

The Guardian is pro-EU as well as leftwing in orientation. Perhaps Cameron wasn't so wrong to fight the proposals given what they would cost City of London financial markets. Even with German backing, which seems to be half-hearted at best and still engendering seething hatred in the backwards economies most subject to German austerity measures, the Euro project could still fail. In that eventuality, an isolation and containment strategy would serve the UK well.
We dont know how the European Federation project will develope, but I understand that it would be very hard for Mighty Albion to accept German leadership. In the end, the City is doomed as increasingly capitals are raised and invested in the Far East - Hong Kong, Shanghai and Singapur.
England is doomed. Native Brits are jailed for sticking up for their traditional culture, and not being on board with the diversity racket, while Londonistan is almost unrecognizable.
The UK's limitations on free speech are admittedly egregious, but France is so much better off with millions of Middle Eastern and sub-Saharan immigrants and the Parisian suburbs periodically engulfed in flames? Or Sweden where the natives face no-go zones of Muslim immigrants in Malmo?

Yes, those grim Germans who actually expect people and nations to live within their means and not run up debts that they cannot repay. They are no fun at all. We prefer the high living Greeks and Latins. Opa! How dare the Germans spoil the fun by refusing to continue to send their savings to the south at low interest rates with no prospect of repayment.
The Guardian socialist writer is full of crap as usual. As Thatcher said, the trouble with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money. That day came a while ago but the socialists would still prefer that the party go on. As Keynes said, in the long run we are all dead. So if the party can be prolonged until the current generation is dead by pretending that there is no problem at all, what do we care what the future holds afterward? The future can take care of itself.

The Socialists, including Obama, live under the illusion that government spending creates "stimulus" - this is akin to a magic trick of pulling yourself up in the air by your boot laces. Or at best it is like the stimulation that addicts get from cocaine - the high cannot be maintained and eventually you crash back down lower than you would be had you not taken the artificial stimulant to begin with. The Germans are now in the position of arresting the drug dealer and the addicts don't like it, even if in the long run it leads to their rehabilitation.

The Germans have the better economy, but it is still the fault of Germany (and France) for choosing to put Germany's economy on the hook for the Club Med's debt instruments. France will have her revenge against Germany.

Regarding "stimulus", when the problem is panic, depression, hopelessness, credit crunch, illiquidity, fear of investing, etc., helicoptering a few printed pieces of paper (or plastic in Israel) does work. It worked recently in the USA.
It promoted a jobless "recovery" i.e. a recovery for those in line for government bailout cash.
The Mediterranean nations may be controlled, providing a strict regime can be imposed by the EU, but they will not be reformed, since the problems arose as a consequence of their ethnic personalities which is entrained and genetic.
Consequently, we are looking at something here that is permanent.
I'm sure the love between Southern and Northern Europe can only grow and grow, as a result of this arrangement.

Love or no love, the European Federation has an army and it will use it to send a message to those subtropical shitholes that still imagine they are independent countries. Serbia in Kosovo understood the idea of Europe. Once federated there is no way out.
Once more, I feel, I am back into the German cultural area. My parents, like most educated Hungarian Jews, spoke fluent German. Few spoke English. Am I too old to change the language of this blog to German?
The funny thing about the EU is that it has furthered the spread of English usage despite the non-dominant position of England in its governance. Since admitting more Slavic-speaking Eastern European countries whose languages few of the Westerners speak, English has become a more common medium of communication.
Besides Austro-Hungarian rule, I suspect one reason the Hungarian Jews entered a German cultural orbit in the 19th c. (before casting much of that off in the face of militant Hungarian nationalism) was that moving from Yiddish to German is relatively easy.
I am not sure that moving from yidish to German is so easy. They are very close and Yidish speakers cant avoid mixing non-German words when pretending to speak correct German and become the laughing stock of the Christians. But that was long ago.
