Friday Night Massacre in Kever Benjamin
Kever Benjamin's police is out in full every Friday night to catch drunken young drivers. Yesternight they stopped a car with two young people coming back from a night club, a persecution ensued and it ended in two dead people. There must be a better way to do this.
Dec.9th Update: It was not the police. Kever Benjamin is infested by volunteer auxiliaries that receive police uniforms and authority. Many of them are police or army pensioners with arms permits. These people patrol the street and are a mighty menace for everybody: I regularly pay 250 shekel penalties for stopping the car on a line on the asphalt, or not stopping fully at a deserted crossroad. They hide near schools and force the children to undergo alcohol tests. They receive police jeeps and hide during the night near the separation wall and catch Palestinian "alte-zachen" recyclers. It was a volunteer patrol that frightened those young boys and drove them to their deaths.

What a waste.

They must have been afraid of taking the alcohol test. In a sense, wrong police tactic killed them. Not that I know what should have been done.
I hate to say it, but it would have been safer if the police had simply recorded the identity of the vehicle and not pursued even when the driver did not stop when requested; they could have arrested the driver later, and the penalties for failing to stop could be made even more severe than being over the limit for blood alcohol.
There is no perfect answer but these hot pursuits of frightened youngsters are just insanity.

The police loves the excitement of a good chase.
The police loves the excitement of a good chase.
And a good funeral or two, presumably.
The police need to be brought under control.
