Slate says that people who drink heavily live longer than those who completely abstain from alcohol. Alcohol decreases your risk of heart disease and diabetes. Regular consumption of alcohol increases levels of HDL, the so-called "good cholesterol". Those who consume two beverages per day increase their HDL levels by between 5 percent and 10 percent, which some believe corresponds to a 10 percent reduction in risk for heart disease. Alcohol also reduces clotting and improve your heart's pumping efficiency. Drinking improves insulin sensitivity, which lowers your risk for diabetes, itself a risk factor for heart disease. For all that, some people argue that the health effects of alcohol might be explained by the fact that people who drink have a healthier lifestyle and are wealthier.

For the last two weeks, people is protesting in Israel. It started with the price of the cottage cheese, then of the real estate. Hospital doctors are on hunger strike. My daughter participated in the "White Night" protest in Tel Aviv, leading the Kever Benjamin group. It is very hot here.

The Ofra WWTP

Ofra is one of the oldest Jewish settlements. Israeli leftwing organizations are harassing it from the beginning and had found a lever to cause problems in the environmental legislation. Ofra sewage, as the Palestinian villages around, flow into a deep wadi that ends in a stalactite cave deep on the limestone mountain aquifer. The sewage, no question about it, pollutes Israel's main water aquifer. The leftist NGOs (financed by European "environmentalists") focused on this issue and caused Wallenstein, the head the community, to be arrested for environmental crimes.

After a decade of harassment and torture, the small community of Ofra took large loans and at a cost of 10 million dollars built a medium-size wastewater treatment plant, designed to receive and treat the sewage of Ofra itself and the surrounding Arab villages. The treated water was to be used in irrigation mostly of the Palestinian fields. The plant was built and it is ready to operate and solve the real water pollution problem of the area. But...

The High Court of Justice yesterday forbade operating a sewage treatment plant built illegally on privately owned Palestinian land in the West Bank settlement of Ofra. The ruling came in response to a petition submitted by Yesh Din on behalf of residents of the Palestinian village of Ein Yabrud against building the plant on their land.

Of course, the main source of sewage, which is from the Arabs villages, has never been mentioned in the lawsuits - it is something "natural" as the droppings of wild fauna. Only Jewish sewage pollutes the Earth. Yesh Din (There is a Law, in Hebrew) is a Jewish organization financed by European donations.

Maddening Lack of Clarity

The world financial situation is unclear and as the weeks pass, it is becoming ever less transparent. What is happening in America? Obama needs money to keep pumping up the economy. “Without this being resolved, in general, it holds back our economy. The lack of clarity about our fiscal situation is very problematic for business.” Europe is in total disarray: Greece is in virtual default, and Italy and Spain on the border of disaster. A Bankrupt Strategy

In thinking about the terror act in Norway, one has to analyse it as a political strategy to achieve certain goals. In this case there is long manifesto with a clear agenda: European Revolution by 2080. Was his strategy correct and effective? It is the Russians who have the richest experience with revolutions in general and with terror as a political tool in particular. It is worth to hear what they have to say.

In 1901-02 the Socialist-Revolutionary Party was formed advocating terrorism as the main weapon. In 1902 Gershuni founded the SR Combat Organisation. Its first act was the assassination of minister of education Sipyagin. The following year the governor of Ufa was assassinated. In 1909 it was revealed that the Organization had been infiltrated from its start by the police. Their agent, Azeff, got Gershuni arrested and he became the head of the Organization. Under the leadership of this over-conscientious police agent, the Organisation (Sezonov, pic) killed the prime minister von Plehve. Trotsky refers to this in his article "The Bankruptcy of Terror".

He writes: "the Socialist-Revolutionaries, by including terrorism in their program, and advocating it as a means of political struggle, are thereby doing the most serious harm to the movement, destroying the indissoluble ties between political work and the mass." Lenin rejected these claims: they simply sowed illusions which would quickly lead to disappointment among the masses and get in the way of organising a mass challenge to the regime.

My Daughter The Leftist

The Gates of Vienna Should Condemn The Mass Murderer

Utoya was an indocrination camp where the boycott of Israel was debated. Norway is a very rich country and its governing party forwards hundreds of millions to "humanitarian" NGOs which are in fact intent on the delegimitization of my country, Israel. Companies have long used criminal background checks, credit reports and even searches on Google and LinkedIn to probe the previous lives of prospective employees. Now, some companies are requiring job candidates to also pass a social media background check.

A year-old start-up, Social Intelligence, scrapes the Internet for everything prospective employees may have said or done online in the past seven years.

Then it assembles a dossier with examples of professional honors and charitable work, along with negative information that meets specific criteria: online evidence of racist remarks; references to drugs; sexually explicit photos, text messages or videos; flagrant displays of weapons or bombs and clearly identifiable violent activity.

“We are not detectives,” said Max Drucker, chief executive of the company, which is based in Santa Barbara, Calif. “All we assemble is what is publicly available on the Internet today.”

The Federal Trade Commission, after initially raising concerns last fall about Social Intelligence’s business, determined the company is in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act, but the service still alarms privacy advocates who say that it invites employers to look at information that may not be relevant to job performance.

And what relevant unflattering information has led to job offers being withdrawn or not made? Mr. Drucker said that one prospective employee was found using Craigslist to look for OxyContin. A woman posing naked in photos she put up on an image-sharing site didn’t get the job offer she was seeking at a hospital.

Other background reports have turned up examples of people making anti-Semitic comments and racist remarks, he said. Then there was the job applicant who belonged to a Facebook group, “This Is America. I Shouldn’t Have to Press 1 for English.” This raises a question. “Does that mean you don’t like people who don’t speak English?” asked Mr. Drucker rhetorically.

Protalix Investment Is Not Lost

I bought Protalix and the next day it lost 50% of its worth. Protalix reports that will file once more for approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its Gaucher's disease treatment Uplyso in "a matter of days." The request will end a difficult few months for investors in Protalix after the FDA rejected the company's request to market Uplyso in February. Sources also say that Protalix's senior executives have been given hints by the FDA that it is eager to push the approval forward. Normally, the FDA takes between two months and six months to respond to such requests, however it is understood that a final answer will be received by Protalix by late September or even earlier. So I have to wait.

This morning the blog mentioned Fjordman, a Scandinavian blogger and commenter. He has nothing to do with the whole business, I am sure of it. Fjordman writes in The Gates of Vienna, Jihad Watch, Atlas Shrugs, The Brussels Journal and Fjordman's own (now defunct) blog on the islamization of Europe. He is strongly pro-Israel and accuses European governments to have formed an alliance that Bat Ye'or calls Eurabia. They share the idea frequently found in American blogs, that Western governments are intend on replacing their core population by third world immigrants. He has always strongly condemned any violence.

The Conscience of an Artist

A week and a half after Tao Tsuot announced that it couldn't pay its debts, controlling shareholder Ilan Ben-Dov broke down and said he was improving his offer to bondholders. "I'm protecting my good name, my conscience and my ability to look my children in the eye," said Ben-Dov. He will also forgo being repaid for his NIS 105 million in B bonds, thus enabling the other bondholders to receive more. Any bondholder who can show that he lost money due to the debt arrangement will be compensated with more Tao shares, up to the value of his investment, said Ben-Dov.

Zelophehad's Daughters: Cousin Marriage

Let me start by quoting a Rabbi:

Relations among Hebrew tribes were delicate - they were allies yet when God was not looking, they massacred each other.

It was a hard theoretical problem (remember, the farms they were fighting about were still occupied by illegal Canaanite natives) but Moses (with the help of God) solved it by allowing Zelophehad's daughters to marry anyone they wished, that is, anyone from their father's clan. Zelophehad's newly propertied daughters, following God's instructions, each choose a son of their uncles. And it all ended in a big happy wedding ceremony, the Alte Kacker Zelophehad would have enjoyed it, Mazal Tov!

Waiting for Clarification

Summertime and the markets are unstable. $25.5 billion Quantum Endowment Fund for Soros Fund Management LLC, is about 75 percent in cash as it waits for better opportunities. Market volumes are low, people is unsure what is going to happen. I think that this money will be invested as soon as something happens to clarify the situation, and it could be Greece's default.

Euro Zone in Crisis

The markets signal an 80% probability that Greece will default. But the contagion is progressing to Italy, and not far away, France and Germany. The only solution will be widespread expropiation of savings, of liquid assets, of higher taxes.

It is becoming obvious that the West's decline is serious: all over the West, standards of living are declining and people is in much worse situation than former generations. The predictions of 1950 of technological marvels, robots, etc. have become true but instead of more vacations, more happiness, etc. people is working more, paying debts and feeling insecure. Maybe half of the population subsists on government jobs and handouts. It is a very surprising development, no one could have preicted that material progress would lead to lower living standards.

I can think of no solutions, not even a solution to my own worries.

Greece has fallen into a vicious circle: It cannot pay its debt, so its interest rate increases, so cannot pay its debt. Greece might have to impose a haircut - or loss - of as much as 80 percent on creditors and start again. Who loses? Germany.

Scandinavian Feminism or Religious Obscurantism

There are two possible solutions to the childlessness that is slowly killing the West. One model is the Scandinavian liberalism where women are equal or superior and people stopped living in traditional family frameworks; the other model that is demographically succeeding is the Amish, Mormons, Haredi and Islamic on the other. The middle course is not working.

Japan is the first nation in modern history to tip over into outright demographic contraction, pioneering a path that will soon be followed by Italy, Germany, Spain, and most of Eastern Europe, with China close behind. The dynamics of decline are already contaminating every aspect of the economy. The trend rate of growth has dropped to 1.5%. Wages have fallen complicating the efforts to stave off deflation. In Japan here is no feminist movement to talk about and society has not created the framework where a woman may have a child without marrying.

Israel is changing fast. In Tel Aviv we have a Scandinavian type society, where gays marry and contract surrogates to have children, and the "New Family" is more or less an accepted and legal part of the scene. They have about zero growth, but are not dying off. In Jerusalem we have a compact, disciplined society of religious families, very successful in increasing their numbers. Soon society will be dominated by these two extremely oppposed social solutions. The Arab minority fall in with the large Jewish majority, and is becomeing westernized and therefore, demographically weak. I dont know if a country fractured into two so different societies is gobernable. Younger people will see (not me).

Addenda: A deeper examination of the figures shows that the Scandinavian model may not be viable. About 15% of the new born Swedes are not from old Swedish stock but Iraqis and Somalis. What the apparently healthy demographic statistics hide is population replacement. If so, there is only one viable model for continuity: religion.

Corollarium: Individuals and political parties that want to strengthen their nations should favour organized religion. Religious instruction should me made compulsive, Churches and synagogues should be subsidized by the State, married men with children should be favoured and promoted. I am against the dark side of a pro-family policy but has to be mentioned: repression of feminism, dissolution of family courts, and limitation of female civil rights (the vote).

The Ethnocentric Viewpoint: As a lifelong Zionist Jew, it is only natural (and unavoidable) that I pose the question if it is good or bad for the Jews. Western decay is absolutely bad for the Jews. First, contra antisemites, we are part of the Western world and cannot lift ourselves up from a decomposing society. On the contrary, as the elite of the West, we feel more acutely all its ills, and Jewish demography in the West is a tragic, ongoing, dramatic catastrophy. From 18 million Jews in 1900 we are now about 10 million at most and that is only partly because of the Holocaust. In Russia, once the five or six million strong reservoir of the Ashkenazic Jewry, there are only tens of thousand Jews left. Western Judaism is disappearing. Secondly, there are more "Jewish" genes among the European masses than concentrated in Jewish bodies. Thirdly, Western religion, once ferociously antisemite, has changed and it is friendly to us. In fact, the Catholic Church and Southern Protestants are strong allies of Israel. They are good for us. They changed, we should change too. The Enlightment movement of the nineteen century was a historic mistake and is killing us, in the twenty first century we Jews should reject liberal ideas and join the clerical (Christian and Jewish) reaction.

Mind Tour of Mongo

It is too hot in Kever Benjamin so let's escape to Mongo. It is a rogue planet that travels through our solar system under the control of its dictator, Emperor Ming. Travelers to Mongo must pass through a "Death Zone" on the way, described by scientist Dr. Hans Zarkov as being "a zone devoid of any force".

The area around the Emperor's palace is desolate and devoid of vegetation. Giant dragons live in the nearby caves. Other vicious animals of Mongo include monkey men, orangopoids and white-striped, bear-like animals. The oceans of Mongo are home to giant sea life, including eels, sharks, water dragons and octosaks.

The people of Mongo have progressed scientifically beyond Earth. According to Ming, "the reason for our success is that we possess none of the human traits of kindness, mercy or pity! We are coldly scientific and ruthless!"

Madness in Israel

A large industrial bakery designed by me is stuck because it appears has been built on a plot near a former Military Industry factory and the soil may be contaminated. The Ministry of Environment demands that all the piping be over the surface, includign the grease interceptor. I may have to design a sewage pumping station for the factory. The risk for contamination of the bread by underground sewage pipes (going out of the factory) are nil. The problem is the rivalry between the Min. of Environment and the Water Authority for contaminated soil regulation, which appears to be the next big regulatory jurisdiction. The thing hides a large potential for building a bureaucratic empire. And for a profitable consulting business. No one thinks of the costs or the benefits.

The Garrot

It is taboo to mention it like jumping before the train or from the Azrieli Towers in Tel Aviv. Once I was parking in Azrieli when a body fell almost on my car. It was never mentioned anywhere. People tend to imitate others, you know. I never could decide if it is better to silence these things or talk openly about them. People finds out them anyway. The garrot is one of those things that everyone at this or other point of their lives finds out. To choke oneself while masturbating produces strong erections and super orgasm. Hanged men die with an erection and orgasm. The worse is that after a garrot you walk a day with an erection. Michael Hutchence and David Carradine died while attempting it. Other deaths are classified heart attacks.

Political Correctness: A Sign of Health

What is Political Correctness and who has it? In my opinion, PC is extreme politeness and generosity. PC behaviour aims to avoid hurting the feeling of others, to the point of accepting the presumed equality or superiority of the other (especially when it is obviously not so). It is like the winner of a race comforting the loser saying it was luck or the wind. It is thanking the food, it was wonderful (when it was not). It is saying to a co-worker "You have slimmed nicely". It is not noticing the fart in the elevator. It is dissimulating one's shock when bumping into a friend with his mongolic son: How nice and smart he is. On a collective level, it is writing in a textbook that Africans invented the alphabet and Whites stole the idea of the American Constitution from them. Only very healthy, relaxed, secure people can be Political Correct. Old, sick, insecure individuals are mean, ungenerous, impolite, sadistic, cruel. I found it so in the hospital when my mother was ill - people who are in pain are not in the mood to be generous. Bitter people, resentful and revanchist peoples like the Hungarians, are racist toward minorities and hate refugees. Only a people relaxed and secure in its city and neighborhood are generous toward strangers and are willing to open their doors and let them in. Only secure, rich people like Swedes are bringing distresssed foreigners to their homes and to live in their neighborhoods. Penile Spines

The pic is a tom cat's penis with penile spines. They are necessary to produce pain in the "queen" and ovulation, together with the neck bite. All mammals have some kind of these spines or keratine bumps, except we humans. Maybe some human behaviours like wife spanking or verbal disciplining are necessary substitutes for inducing ovulation and fertilization.

Blog Violence

Following the comments in some other conservative blogs is tiring. There is no real conversation, no argument, just  violent and blind name calling. May be it is the summer heat, but I am not in the mood to engage them.

BTW, there was an argument why the level of violence in the USA has fallen. The theory that violently inclined had been aborted was debunked/ May be it is because of the mass jailing of young males. Two and half million are in jail in America. In comparison, there are only about three thousand in Israel. Another factor is Prozac.

Hate Killing of Israeli Arabs

That extreme left fishwrap called HaAretz provides me every morning some material to write satire. Israeli Arabs, it appears, are dying of road accidents at a higher rate that Israeli non-Arabs (Jews, Christians, fire-worshipers or just unbelievers). The journalist says that this is a clear effect of discrimination agains the Arab minority. It is a population that feels opressed by the State of Israel, and as such they tend to disregard or violate the State's Laws, which - the journalist feels- is perfectly justified. As an opressed and colonized people, Arabs feel the need to assert their humanity and cross the street when the red light is on. They feel that those "Jewish" laws of speed limits and right of way have been designed to limit their freedom on their own land (that has been stolen from them, the journalist reminds me). Following the teachings of Frantz Fanon, they fight colonial de-humanization by refusing to ask for driving licences from the Colonizer State. It is clear that it is all fault of the Jews, who are their disgrace.
