Steve Sailer wrote: "There is tentative evidence for evolution of more defenses against influenza -- in general, blacks had a hard time surviving in the North due to respiratory tract infections, which is one reason slavery faded out in the North, which [is] something they ought to teach you when you study the Civil War."
C. Aubrey commented: "Two reasons they will never teach it: 1) it suggests that blacks are physically different in some way - their inability to handle respiratory viruses; 2) it suggests that Yankees didn't reject slavery simply because they were moral giants."
There is more and more evidence that things we think that are important, such as morals, ethics, etc. exert almost no impact on human affairs. Unseen factors like genetic disease resistance decide the fate of wars and of races. The New World was conquered by a handful of Spanish military entrepreneurs only because they had resistance to epidemic diseases. Ashkenazi Jews accumulate more capital than other people, in part, because we have less diseases and in average live longer. No need for moral or conspiratorial theories.

Aren't morals and ethics just as much unseen factors as genetic resistance to disease?
Morals and ethics ARE unseen factors, yes, but their impact on survival and reproduction is weak or inexistent. Moreover, one can imagine many life situations where morals and ethics affect NEGATIVELY the chances for survival and reproduction.
The workings of Nature are cold, ugly and amoral. The loftiest struggle of humanity is to grow out of our animal origins and become moral creatures. At this point we are very much animals driven by environmental factors like diseases and parasites.
Ashkenazim have high population carrier rates for more genetic diseases than most populations.
blacks had a hard time surviving in the North
American slaves had high fertility.
Ashkenazim have high population carrier rates for more genetic diseases than most populations.
No, they do not. Ashkenazim are the people most studied from the genetic composition aspect, and their mutations are the most researched and understood. Ashkenazim are most aware of genetic diseases and are the first group to adopt voluntary programs for elimination of diseases such as Tay Sachs, that has almost disappeared. All that gives the impression that genetic disease is widespread, but in percentage is much less than the general population.
Tay Sachs disease has been eliminated, but the carrier rate is essentially the same as it always was. It is true that Ashkenazim are heavily studied, but in the absence of a wide variety of other populations studied to the same degree, it is still early to declare with certainty that Ashkenazim don't have a higher rate of carrier states of genetic diseases than other populations.
It is not early. Israeli Ministry of Health has registers of birth defects and consistently Ashkenazim have less than .5% births with congenital defects. Highly inbred populations like the Beduin and Palestinians have frighteningly high proportion of deaf and other congenital diseases. About the fact that Ashkenazim are longer living than any other population there is no debate, and all the statistics show that they are remarkably healthy. Only in "neurastenia" and other imaginary nervious complaints and breakdowns we lead the world by far. Ashkenazim are under psychoanalysis in a vastly larger proportion than any other population. Yet suicide is rare among us.
Actually, Okinawans and Japanese live longer on average than Ashkenazim.
No, they dont. You are confusing the average life span of Israelis (a mixed multitude) with Ashkenazim.
They have more money because they have higher IQs, coupled with a more anxious outlook on life. Plus they understand that the future will actually happen, and not only that, it can and must be influenced actively.
It is not a sin.
Anon.
We have an anxious outlook on life, true. In the trade off "money vs anxiety" I'd have loved to live more at ease. But it has not given to us to be what we want.
Not many people get to be what they want.

I'd be more relaxed and happy.
Being relaxed and happy logically implies that one doesn't really worry too much about current imperfections, or about the future.
It's not in your genes, or in mine.
This is the great commonality between Jews and WASPs, the raison d'etre of our partnership, and the basis for the civilization we have built together.

I totally agree with Anon., yet I need to take vacations from my genes, my self. Vodka helps.
