In my times, old people in Buenos Aires drank Hesperidina, Pineral, Ferro Quina Bisleri, Amargo Obrero and so, but they have all disappeared to the point that empty bottles are sold in antiquities shops. They were bitter tonics with presumed medicinal-digestive qualities. Amargo Obrero's bottle was black and red with a sickle, as behooved to a true anarcho-sindicalist (later Peronist) drink. What can an aged Üttöro (komsomolchik) now bourse speculator drink in Israel?

Do you want me to ship you Unicum?
Thank you. I can drink Unikum in small quantities but it is too sweet for my taste. I am not kidding - it leaves a sweet aftertaste in the mouth. I think I shall continue with Vodka Perfect, the cheapest and the purest industrial ethylic alcohol in Kever Benjamin City.

I don't know what's available in Israel but in the US it's still possible to get Fernet Branca .

You were the one longing for bitters, not I (I don't really care for them myself). Amari and vodka are two different things - certainly if you are just looking for the cheapest form of drinkable ethanol, Fernet will not be it. But Amari (the categorical name for such spirits) are enjoyed (if you enjoy them at all) for their alleged "medicinal" properties and/or for their taste, not just for their alcohol content.

Bitters are medicinal in the sense that it is difficult to drink enough of them to fall under the table. Bitters are an acquired taste, you have to cultivate it for a few years till you get it.
