The Minister Landau is learning Israeli reality and dares to tell it in public. He has accused the environmentalists of causing electricity shortage in Israel and the need to burn coal instead of gas, poisoning the environment. True. The Ashdod electricity generation plant project, to be based on natural gas, was sabotaged and ultimately abandoned because of ferocious opposition of the Israeli nature loving movement. The minister for environment Ordan (left pic) capitulated to the greens and sank the project. Now we are burning coal and breathing in the particles, and on top of it, the price of electricity is doubling these days.
Landau (pic right) is the only politician linking the housing shortage in Israel and the high prices of apartments with the Greens that have been systematically killing construction projects all over Israel to protect nature and large create "green lungs" - to allow "breathing" in this overcrowded Israel.
Yet even Landau did not dare to accuse the greens of our loss of Makhteshim to the Chinese. The chemical company in the Negev was so harassed during the last ten years that they decided to move to China. No one talks about that.

Greens are usually well off and in some occupation that doesn't require knowing how things are actually produced. As Murray points out, they probably have never even seen the inside of an electrical generation facility in their life. All they know is that when they plug in their iPad's charger it works. If they cause the infrastructure to break down, they will be the ones most insulated - they will get solar panels on their roof, their tenured faculty jobs won't be affected. The poor and middle classes will suffer the consequences.

You are right. The upper middle class is totally divorced from reality, they dont link in their minds things like impossibly pure generation plants and the cost of electicity, or the cost of soil detoxification or soil change (as required by new legislation) with the price of apartments.
It's the upper middle class rather than the trust fund wealthy that are divorced from reality, J?
Greens are a gnostic/neo-Manichean movement; they deep down inside believe that this world and our life is a big demonic suffering machine designed to entrap our pure souls, and that death is the only liberation. Of course, it's hard to sell that doctrine to the masses who are too stupid to embrace such a wickedly clever idea, so they use the polar bears and baby seals and such.
Are the Manichean environmentalists in league with the homosexual meter software writers and the CIA agents plotting Putin's overthrow? And where do the Elders of Zion fit into this?

I take it you don't believe in archetypes, K?
In general the greens don't appreciate the cost of capital and the role it plays in economic decisions. They also fail to understand the concept of energy density. Now let's put the two together. Compare energy as petroleum flowing in a pipe to electrical energy flowing in a wire. (Actually the energy flows outside the wire in the electromagnetic field, but never mind that for the moment.) The energy flux in the pipe is incredible. The Trans Alaska oil pipeline can pump two million barrels a day. Now turn that flow into a wattage (joules per second) and compare to the rate of energy consumption by New York City averaged over a year (total electric energy consumed divided by the number of seconds in a year.) The pipeline wattage is 23 times the New York wattage. Think of that-- one four-foot pipe can deliver energy at 23 times the rate at which the whole city of New York consumes electricity. That oil flow is also 73 times the wattage in a three-wire 765,000 volt transmission line like the ones they use at Quebec Hydro.
Now in essence the greens want to replace chemical energy flows in pipes with electric energy flows in wires. As the above example shows the capital costs of doing so would be so high it would cripple the world's economy. We are stuck with hydrocarbon fuels. We can't replace them and have a modern economy. Hydrogen won't work either because hydrogen without the carbon has too many problems.
The greens simply don't worry about capital costs. To them capital comes free with government printing press. They have believed this for a long time. For example in 1969 the California Senate passed a bill outlawing the internal combustion engine in California including diesel engines in trucks. The bill failed in the State Assembly. The green politicians figured somehow the auto industry would figure out a way replacing the internal combustion engine. "Make them do it and they will."
Greens and socialists operate from the same time worn narrative - they think capitalists are greedy saboteurs out to screw the people and despoil the land and air. The capitalists have a secret pill to turn water into gasoline but they are withholding it from the market to make more money. They have gold that they are hiding from the tax collector. If the government tortures the capitalists enough they will give up the secrets. Etc. It all operates off the same magical premise (the Europeans played this game with the Jews for 1,000 years). They don't need to know whether such magical results are possible or not - the capitalists will fess up if you squeeze them hard enough and if you don't, well torturing them is fun in its own right.

No. At their heart, their leaders hate civilization and desire its destruction. "Tis better to rule in hell than to serve in heaven," "the Devil was the first Whig," etc.
