The central bank has purchased £325 billion ($505 billion) U.K. government bonds with freshly created money in an effort to boost demand. It also has kept interest rates at 0.5%, a record low for the bank's 317-year history. It is a conceptual revolution. A hundred years ago, Europe led the world in economic theory. Today it is an intellectual wasteland wshere I cant find ONE original thinker. Only America has them and only in America there is a living free debate in economic theory. It seems that the last three generation of dysgenics (including the Holocaust) has decapitated European intelligentzia. This seems obvious in Russia, Poland (pic: The Kathyn massacre of the officer ranks of the Polish Army) and Hungary, where intellectuals were persecuted and killed for generations and the Jews, exterminated. It shouldnt be so in Italy, France, Holland where there were no major guillotining except in the trenches of WWI, so it may be that natural processes of differential reproduction are the cause of their current intellectual weakness.

It's not evident at all.
Eastern Europe's economy is better run than Western Europe's.
I think that there was no Hungarian or Polish Nobel SCience Prize Winners in the last two generations. Hungarian science or literature or cinematography or whatever is dead. I dont want to mention Bielorrusia or Ucraine, which have descended to African levels (Ucraine GNP per capita is lower than a well run AFrican country). Moldavia is Africa.
Per capita GDP isn't a perfect measure. I think if forced to make a choice between living anywhere in sub-Saharan Africa other than South Africa (which still has some of its old infrastructure) or Ukraine, you would probably choose Ukraine. Also, it's a little early to crown Bernanke with laurels. Eventually we (USA and Europe) will have to dig our way out of this debt, and it won't be pretty.
Why was America spared this dysgenic effect?
Why? (1) WWI and WWII almost did not touch the middle class boys, while the best of European youth was massacred twice in a century. (2) Jews found refuge in America (3) large Asian - Japanese,Chinese and South Indian Brahmin - inflow. (4) Continuing middle class immigration from Argentina, Mexico, Cuba, Europe, etc.
Give it a couple of years.
America is doing OK right now only if you judge by bullshit economic indicators gathered by the government which hardly lacks vested interest to fudge them. The real situation hasn't improved, as the underlying factors behind the 2008 crash have not been improved but only made worse. The indicators have improved to the degree that they have only because Europe has crashed harder and faster than the US, its hopes for the Euro to become the world's reserve currency, upstaging the dollar, have collapsed, and there have been big capital outflows into the dollar from the Euro. However, despite all that, as judged by precious metals prices over the last 6 months, the dollar's purchasing power has not improved very much (a hundred dollars' rise per ounce of gold.) When the capital flow from Europe runs out (soon,) America will be back on its downward spiral. The current situation is like shipwrecked sailors who just ate one of their own and aren't hungry...for the moment.

Swedish doctors recently grew a vein from a patient's stem cells, transplanted the vein and saved the patient's life. Since the patient's own cells were used there was no post-op issue with her immune system. These were all medical firsts.

We have no idea what will happen with this stem-cell-produced structure over time. Some malignant tumors are thought to derive from stem cells, and the possibility that the vein in this women will harbor a nidus of malignant transformation cannot be excluded without long-term followup. Also, a vein is not a complex organ. There is a lot more that can go wrong with producing one of those, in case you think we are already at the miracle cure stage of this technology.
Furthermore, American academic institutions and private companies are working on stem cell technology. Because of the potential risks involved, though, American IRB's (institutional review boards for medical research projects) may throw up some roadblocks before it can be tested in live human subjects. The approval process gets very difficult when multiple clinical testing sites and private companies get involved. FDA approval will be yet another hurdle. The American bureaucracy is set up to keep the population safe from potential harm caused by novel pharmaceuticals and medical devices. Their European equivalents have been willing to take a few more risks.
Europe is intellectually weak, not dead. IQ distribution is gaussian, so there is still some extreme intelligence left in Europe, but much less than a hundred years ago.

You definitely observed something very true. The level of intelectual activity which took place in Europe 100 years ago , and now takes place in US.
Obviously true but somehow other conclusions were wrong.

Well it is a matter of resources. US is the center of an Empire. Like European countries J mentions before them.
Now the US affords to keep millions, maybe tens of millions of people to do nothing useful. The are in think tanks, media, universities, adminstration - analysis, security services - 1 million of top security level, etc
Like the roman case before, if you feed millions for nothing some of them might pursue some intellectual developments.
Todays Europe can't keep so many of useless eaters because hmmm well tributes flow towards the US our days.
What is the value of their production is hard to say.
I agree with you all things of interest for me come from the US. But the logical useful stuff is maybe 1/1000??? Maybe less.

We take the tens of millions of people forming the rentier class in US - rentier in the sens of doing absolutely nothing of any use for anyone, just producing talk and noise and being well kept for this, sometimes nothing at all and being better kept - and hmmm send them to earn a living. Move the tributes towards europe as before and keep tens of millions of rentiers feeding on the mentioned tributes there.
Hmmmm incredible , the euros would produce many papers on any subject conceivable. Out or tens of millions some hundreds of thousands will not be imbecils. And maybe tens of thousands will be very smart.

Well that means we all made the big mistake of underestimating Mr. Hjalmar Schacht.
Under the great leader Adolf he invented moneterising the debt.
Of course it didn't work and had to start a war to get some tributes into the system. Through "clearing", exactely the way US draws resources from the empire to the metropolis.
But of course maybe Bernanke is smarter :))). He can take Adolf's useless idea and make it work. I doubt he can. In fact I was polite.
In the end it all depends on the army and security services just like in Schaht/Adolf case.
