Those Terrible Jukes

The Jukes are a fictional clan of inborn criminals, whores and other lowlife creatures invented by New York turn of century criminal scientists. The clan's ancestor is a Dutch frontierman in New York State. Of the 2000 descendants studied, only two were classified as feebleminded, which is remarkable for consuetidinary criminals. Apparently they did not suffer from low IQ but a shared dislike of badly paid physical work like forest clearing with hand axes and in general, of those tightass Puritans. Since I am not in the business of reforming loose blonde Dutch girls like the inventors of the Jukes narrative, my vote is for letting the Jukes to be and go on reproducing freely.

The "Jukes" clan was real, but the name "Jukes" was a pseuodonym created by the sociologists.

They also may not have been closely related in that they carried many different surnames. Dugdale and Estabrook thought they all descended from an 18th century frontiersman of Dutch ancestry.

It was a subculture, not a genetic family.
