Elections in Israel: Fewer Vegans in the Knesset

Half of the new Knesset are first timers without national political background. Paradoxically, the religious and the Arab parties have the most continuity, while there are no stable Jewish middle class parties and every four years we have new parties and new people. I have scarcely ever heard before of Yair Lapid's people, specially not of that African girl. He felt he had to have a black female face in his list. Now Netaniyahu has to choose between the traditional Likud+religious parties+nationalist coalition, and a Likud+Lapid+small secular parties coalition. Lapid's voters are secular so he cannot now easily ally itself with the religious. They all have the same thing in mind, so in the end they will all jump into the bed together. Not sex, dont be silly, I'm talking of money. Few Labor and Meretz vegan-socialists got elected, so we are assured of four more years of carnivore American-style capitalist rule. The Knesset buffet will stop serving vegan dishes and rare red beefsteaks will start to show up. Netaniyahu, Lapid, Bennet are all made-in-America carnivore capitalists and read their prayers on-line from the Wall Street Journal. TASE, the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, already feels refreshed and climbed to new peaks. If I weren't suffering from swine flu I would feel even better.

J, we wish you a refuah shlema.

What concerns me, especially about Lapid's party is this: Israel faces existential threats, especially from the Iranians, and he and his voters seem more concerned about real estate prices and the cost of a liter of milk. In the Warsaw ghetto, the rich carried on doing business even as the Germans were preparing the cattle cars to haul them to Treblinka. I don't wish to see this repeated.

People feel no danger of any imminent disaster here. After 65 years, we see Israel as solid and permanent.

On the other hand, there were no free buffet parties in the Warshaw ghetto.

What can Israel do about the existential threat from Iran? Its military is not capable of destroying the Irani nuclear program or conquering the country. And these limitations only throw Israel's precarious existence into sharper relief. Yes, Lapid is fiddling on the deck of the Titanic after it has hit the iceberg, but no matter what he or anyone else does, the ship cannot be saved.

Pretending that there is no problem and thinking that nothing can be done are both wrong approaches. Iran is a problem - Israel's job #1 is to fix it and fix it it will, by any means necessary. Any. I think Netanyahu understands this even if Lapid and some of the voters don't.

If you don't like America, don't take our money. NO MONEY TO ISRAEL TO FUND THEIR TERRORIST CAMPAIGNS.
Sincerely,
A Democrat in the USA

Hence Obama.

How did Democrat in the USA get the idea that J doesn't like America?

Not liking Obama is the same as not liking America to "A Democrat in the USA".

You're probably right, but he could instead be a WN socialist.

I pray to see the day when Israel stops taking American money-that stuff is poison to sovereignty.

It's not worth your soul.

"Free" money almost always has strings attached to it but 9 times out of ten (at least) people will take it anyway. The devil is offering you money now and will come for your soul later. Most humans (but politicians especially) are more worried about now than later. What has changed since Esau sold his birthright for a bowl of porridge?

What's changed is that now we are Esaus.

It seems you are right B/K. ( As usual I might say but that is another story).
We have sold our souls and now God(or his other side, the dark one)/Nature is coming to collect.
Unfortunately our children will pay for our mistake.
Imbecile parents manage to put next generation in bad situations.
